You may notice some work going on at the Lentz building. The Lentz building is historic and part of the downtown historic district. We have been in conversations with the National Park Service and our NC officials during the restoration. To complete its designation, they have requested that we make the patio and deck more closely match the building so as not to detract from the building character. To do this, we will be covering the columns and other brick surfaces to match the grey stucco building. We hope to have this new look completed shortly and the Café ready for use again. Watch for a future announcement as we unveil a historic designation plaque on the Lentz building, this summer.

Now that the Lentz building is complete and we have only a few final touches, work has begun across the street on the last renovation on N Main St. Although this building is technically not included in the historic downtown designation, it is over 50 yrs old and as you can see, the brick facade is very nice. It will be restored to house a number of small local shops and businesses. That will be an important step in continuing to showcase our historic town and to give our many visitors and residents a place to shop.
If you wonder how we get things completed so quickly, it is because of the dedication and hard work of the many local construction professionals who work almost 7 days a week and yes even Sunday night to keep things on schedule.

We are pleased to announce a great new addition to the many culinary choices in MP. Many of you have asked for a coffee shop so we are happy to announce the opening of Cafe'Lentz on Oct 16.
The Cafe' will offer a full coffee and tea service, bakery items from our partner, The Bakery in MP ( right next door), along with other light breakfast and lunch items. There is a dog friendly patio as well as comfortable seating inside the historic Lentz building. Come see us. The original doors from 1912 are on display.
Our initial hours will be 6:30AM-3:00 PM Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 6:30 AM- 9PM Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We will be closed Sunday. Look for more information and a menu as we get closer to opening. Just another reason to call MP home!!

We are very close to completing the restoration of the Lentz Building. We hope you like how it turned out! We will announce more about the occupants and official opening next week but It is completely occupied. Bear Insurance, The Bakery at Mt Pleasant, a new coffee shop ( more about this next week) G 2 Real Estate, Cicada Studios ,KIrby Ann Photography and MP Properties will occupy the building. We are very excited to have three new businesses opening or relocating to MP. A special thanks to the ownership group that has made this all possible: Allen " Hap" James, Whit Moose, Joe Moose, and Allen Dobson.
You may have already noticed that there is now major work starting across the street... The building that formerly housed DB Tees will also be renovated to house additional new businesses... it will be home to some new and relocated locally owned and operated shops and businesses. While it is not considered a historic building, we will make sure it looks like and fits the historic character of our town.

One more mystery. The flagpole. It has been there as long as we can remember but it hasn't had a flag on it for 30+ years. Why is it there and what to do?..We are finishing up and the landscaping is going in. We will be installing a fountain on the corner and the flagpole is in the way.. We have asked many city elders and historians about the flag pole. No one can really remember much significant about it. Best we can tell, it was installed when the building served as town hall but hasn't been used since. So- we will remove the flagpole and save the top for display. Stay tuned for a great looking square. ..
