City of Mt. Pleasant Public Safety

City of Mt. Pleasant Public Safety The City of Mt. Pleasant Division of Public Safety performs many critical functions in providing for the health, safety, and welfare of the community.

LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES combines traditional, community and intelligence-led policing models and delivers those services through uniform and plain clothes officers. The Patrol Division responds to calls for service, investigates crime, and conducts patrol-related operations. Our Specialized Service Section includes the Youth Services Unit, Park Rangers, School Crossing Guards, and the Community S

ervices Officers. FIRE SERVICES provides traditional and highly technical services unique to any other fire department, including Fire Suppression, Rescue, Medics, Urban Search and Rescue, Prevention Services, Housing and Commercial Inspection, and Emergency Management. THE NEIGHBORHOOD RESOURCE UNIT (NRU), a team comprised of many City departments, works diligently to maintain property value in both owner-occupied and rental properties. Led by Assistant Fire Chief Doug Lobsinger, the effort aims to increase the safety and upkeep of neighborhoods while making sure landlords are up to date on code regulations and other communications. Community partnerships are vital to the NRU. We hold regular meetings and outreach with the rental community, Central Michigan University and Mid-Michigan College. The unit has a list of ongoing duties including handling rental complaints, housing code inspections and enforcement, and commercial inspections. THE RECORDS SECTION provides administrative support to the Division of Public Safety. The Records Section also handles all Freedom of Information Act requests, firearm permits and registration, s*x offender registration and verification, as well as all state and federal reporting requirements for the entire agency.
