Despite the cold weather last night it did not stop our Jr. Firefighters from sharpening their skills with their last live fire training of the year. 5 Jr. Firefighters along with 2 Jr. Firefighters from Staunton Fire Protection District trained in multiple scenarios. Practicing hose deployments, hydrant connections, throwing ladders, hose advancement, search and rescue, and radio communications. Trainings like these are vital to prepare these young men to be ready when called upon. I am extremely proud of the dedication of these young men.

Come see your Mt.Olive Junior Firefighters this Friday and Saturday at homecoming. They along with the Miss Mount Olive Pagent will be teaming up to bring back a classic event. Step on up and try your luck!!!

This past weekend, 6 of our junior firefighters attended a 4-day training at the Illinois Fire Service Institute in Champaign, or as we in the fire service know it, Disneyland. These young men spent those four days learning from some of the best instructors in the country with real-world and live-fire scenarios. These young men sharpened their skills in a wide variety of areas, which include but are not limited to RIT, search and rescue, hose line advancement, automotive fires, and vehicle extrications. Training like this is invaluable to these young men as they get to train in ways that are simply not possible in our area.

I would like to thank the Mt. Olive Volunteer Fire Department for their continued support of the junior firefighters program and a huge thank you to everyone from the community that supports us through our fundraisers. None of this would be possible without the continued support of every single one of you.

Last Sunday 7 of our Junior Firefighters gave up their Sunday night for search and rescue training.

These young men practiced critical skills in little to no visibility with real smoke and real fire. They continue to meet every challenge and work hard all the time to be ready when they are called upon. We couldn’t be more proud of these young men.
