Before heading out on a bicycle, e-bike, or e-scooter, make sure you know the rules.

In Tennessee, a bicycle (e-bikes and e-scooters, too) has the legal status of a vehicle. That means they have rights on the roadway, like a car, but they also have responsibilities and are required to follow traffic laws.

A few important reminders:

• Ride with traffic and stay to the right when on the roadway.
• Obey stop signs and traffic signals.
• Use hand signals when turning or stopping.
• Make sure you’re visible, especially in low-light conditions.
• Riders under 16 are required to wear a helmet.

These may seem like simple things, but they can make a big difference in preventing crashes and injuries.

Parents, please take a few minutes to talk with young riders about the rules before they head out. And drivers, remember to give bicyclists, e-bike riders, and e-scooter riders the space and attention they deserve.

We want everyone to enjoy getting around Mt. Juliet, but most importantly, we want everyone getting home safely.

A stolen vehicle is headed back to its victim, and a man wanted for felony theft is in jail after another alert helped our officers make an apprehension this afternoon.

The vehicle had been stolen from Murfreesboro just days ago. This morning, as it entered Mt. Juliet off Interstate 40 to Belinda Pkwy, a license plate reader alerted our officers to the associated license plate, who quickly responded and began searching the area.

An officer then spotted the stolen vehicle parked at the Exxon on Belinda Pkwy. Officers moved in and apprehended the driver without incident.

Further investigation revealed the driver, a 30-year-old Nashville man, was also wanted by Rutherford County authorities since September 1 on an outstanding felony theft warrant.

Criminal activity does not stop at city limits. Those who steal in one community can quickly travel into another, which is exactly why proactive policing, responsible use of technology guided by strict policy, and strong partnerships across jurisdictional lines matter.

Our officers remain focused on making Mt. Juliet a difficult place for those committing crimes to operate, hide, or pass through.

These results continue to reinforce what our data consistently shows. During the first six months of 2026, Mt. Juliet officers apprehended 342 wanted individuals, with 88% being non-residents of our city. Additionally, Mt. Juliet recorded its lowest overall crime rate in at least 25 years, according to newly released 2025 crime data reported through the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s recently released Crime in Tennessee report.

Those numbers tell an important story. Much of the criminal activity our officers encounter originates outside Mt. Juliet. Through proactive policing, high officer visibility, strategic patrol operations, strong investigative work, and responsible use of license plate readers, our team continues to identify threats, apprehend offenders, and ensure criminals are not successful in our community or have any opportunity to harm our community members.

This September, like many before, you may notice a semicolon displayed on each of our patrol vehicles in recognition of Su***de Prevention and Awareness Month. The semicolon has become a powerful symbol of hope and perseverance, representing a moment when a sentence could have ended, but instead continued. In the same way, it serves as a reminder to anyone struggling that their story is not over and that there is still more to be written ;

We stand with those in our community who may be struggling, those who have fought through difficult seasons, and the families and friends who continue to support them. No one should feel like they have to face their darkest moments alone. These semicolons are a simple but meaningful reminder that there is hope, there is help, and your story is worth continuing. ❤️;

Crime statistics are numbers. What they represent are real people, homes, vehicles, and businesses.

In 2025, Mt. Juliet recorded just 694 property crimes, 270 less than in 2020. Crimes Against Persons totaled just 228, lower than the 247 recorded in 2001, when Mt. Juliet had roughly one-third of today’s population.

Even more encouraging, the combined rate of crimes affecting people and property has fallen by more than two-thirds from its historical peak.

That’s significant progress, especially in a city that has experienced tremendous growth.

But low crime doesn’t mean there is less work to do.

Our officers remain highly proactive every day, identifying wanted individuals, intercepting stolen vehicles, recovering illegal fi****ms and dangerous drugs, and working to prevent crime before another person becomes a victim.

And keeping Mt. Juliet safe is a team effort. We’re fortunate to have an entire city government team committed to maintaining a safe, strong community, along with residents and businesses who overwhelmingly support public safety, trust our officers, and allow our team to do the work necessary to protect them.

That level of trust and support is special, and we don’t take it for granted. We know it has to be earned every day, and we’re incredibly grateful to serve a community that stands behind its officers and shares our commitment to keeping Mt. Juliet safe.

Because ultimately, that’s what these numbers are about: protecting people, preventing victimization, and preserving the safe community we’re all fortunate to call home.

Whether it’s a bicycle, e-bike, or e-scooter, safe riding starts with knowing the rules.

One important Tennessee law for parents and young riders to remember: helmets are required for riders under 16 on bicycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters.

As these ways of getting around continue to grow in popularity, we want everyone to enjoy them safely and responsibly. So far this year, MJPD has responded to three injury crashes involving e-bikes or e-scooters, and our goal is to help prevent more.

A helmet is one of the simplest and most important ways to help protect a young rider from serious injury. Before they roll out, make sure the helmet is on, properly fitted, and secured.

We’ll continue sharing Tennessee laws, safety tips, and reminders for bicycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters.

We’re also grateful for the Mt. Juliet Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) and their continued work to promote safe transportation and educate our community.

Mt. Juliet has roughly tripled in size. Yet fewer Crimes Against Persons occurred in 2025 than nearly 25 years ago.

In 2001:
Population: approximately 14,800
Crimes Against Persons: 247

In 2025:
Population: approximately 45,200
Crimes Against Persons: 228

Think about that.

Far more people. More homes. More businesses. More visitors. More traffic. More activity.

Yet fewer crimes against people—less victims in our community.

That kind of progress doesn’t happen by accident. It takes vigilant officers, proactive police work, strong partnerships, and a community committed to keeping Mt. Juliet a safe place to call home.

Mt. Juliet is much larger today, but property crime continues to move in the opposite direction.

Just 694 property crimes were reported in Mt. Juliet during 2025.

Compare that to:

2020: 964
2022: 869
2025: 694

That means there were 270 fewer property crimes in 2025 than in 2020, a 28% reduction, despite Mt. Juliet continuing to experience tremendous growth.

Even more significant, the property crime rate has fallen by nearly two-thirds from its all-time high.

Those numbers represent fewer thefts, fewer incidents, fewer stolen vehicles, and most importantly, fewer people becoming victims of crime.

Our city continues to grow, but our commitment to keeping it safe grows right along with it.

A seatbelt violation led to the apprehension of a Hendersonville man wanted on multiple charges out of Nashville and Wilson County this afternoon.

An officer stopped a vehicle on Belinda Pkwy after noticing the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. During the stop, the officer discovered the 37-year-old Hendersonville man was wanted by Nashville authorities for assault with bodily injury and by Wilson County authorities for failure to appear on felony charges of theft of a firearm and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Our officers remain focused on making Mt. Juliet a difficult place for those committing crimes to operate, hide, or simply pass through unnoticed.

Keeping Mt. Juliet one of Tennessee’s safest communities doesn’t happen by accident. It takes officers who stay vigilant, pay attention to the details, and understand that even a routine traffic stop can lead to getting a wanted individual off the streets.
