Mount Joy has a lot of banners that are fading or damaged and need to be replaced. Wouldn't it be nice to replace these banners before July 4th, the 250th anniversary of the United States? Unfortunately, we do not have contact information for some of the people that sponsored these banners. If you know the family of one of these Hometown Heros and the banners are faded, can you let that family know that the banner can be replaced? Maybe a banner near your home or business is faded and damaged. Anyone can donate money toward replacing a banner. Help us by sharing this post.

Community support becomes complicated when personal opinions enter the conversation. Should public decisions be based on what's good for the community as a whole, or on whether some residents approve of the message, event, or organization?

The zoning meeting for Mount Joy Township has been postponed. The attached picture shows part of the site...

And the developers, as part of their argument in favor of building warehouses, pointed out that it won't be as bad looking as the Hershey Excavating in the photo.

The Zoning Hearing Board is reviewing a proposal for a large warehouse and industrial park development on Mount Pleasant Road in Mount Joy Township. The project includes multiple warehouse/light industrial buildings and related infrastructure improvements.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝?

Supporters point to jobs, tax revenue, and planned traffic improvements. Opponents have raised concerns about truck traffic, noise, building size, views, and impacts on nearby homes and the rural character of the area.

If you've never attended a council meeting, you might want to attend the next one.

At the last meeting, a council member spoke about "hateful rhetoric" in the community. In the same comments, 𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍-𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝.

Read that again.

A peaceful protest. No personal accusations. No threats. No slurs. Yet somehow his personal offense was compared to one of the most hateful words in American history.

Whether you agree with the protest or not, being uncomfortable with a message is not the same thing as experiencing racism.

Comments like these matter because the 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲.

If you care about free speech, peaceful protest, respectful disagreement, or simply understanding what is being said on your behalf, you are encouraged to attend the next meeting on June 1st at the new municpal building and listen for yourself.

Don't take our word for it. Show up. Pay attention. Form your own opinion.

Memorial Day should remind us of something important.

The men and women who fought for this country came from different backgrounds, beliefs, religions, and political views.

But they still stood beside one another with respect, unity, and love for their country.

Politics is supposed to be about debate, ideas, and solutions.

𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐲.
𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠.
𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐬.

Disagreeing is American.
Dehumanizing each other is not.

Honor the freedoms they sacrificed for by acting like a community worthy of those sacrifices. 🇺🇸

A 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 Council member referred to a peaceful silent protest as “hate speech” while simultaneously speaking about the problem of hateful rhetoric at this month's meeting.

𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐢𝐧.

The signs mentioned included phrases like:

* “attacks on women’s rights”
* “erasing and faking government data”
* “threatening foreign nations”
* “defying court rulings”

𝐍𝐨 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬. 𝐍𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. 𝐍𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬. 𝐍𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.

Just statements identifying historical warning signs commonly associated with authoritarianism and fascism.

Disagree with the message if you want. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.

But peaceful protest and political expression are not “hate speech” simply because they make someone uncomfortable or offended.

Using military service as justification to silence or shame protected speech while claiming to defend freedom completely misses the point of the freedoms veterans fought for in the first place.

Criticism of government, political ideology, or leadership is not hate speech.

Trying to label peaceful dissent as dangerous while responding with hostility and outrage is exactly the kind of rhetoric many people are concerned about.
