Mount Horeb Landmarks Foundation, Inc The project of the Mount Horeb Landmarks Foundation is the restoration of the District #1 Schoolhouse, the oldest remaining school building in Mount Horeb.

It was built in 1889 and served students on the west side of the village with its two classrooms.

Come and see the historic District #1 Schoolhouse set up as an 1893 classroom during the Open House Saturday, May 20, 10 am to 2 pm. So thrilled this School Days program will be taking place in April and May!!

It's coming! It's coming! The schoolhouse will be filled with Dane and Iowa County students participating in classes of 1893 and doing chores like they did before and after school. The planning committee is busy preparing for a fun and educational experience. A few available spots are open to both school districts and homeschool groups.

Annual Pie Auction/ Ice Cream Social/Band Concert
Thursday, August 11 at District #1 Schoolhouse

The annual Pie Auction on Thursday, August 11 at the District #1 Schoolhouse in will again feature an Ice Cream Social and Band Concert before the auction. This fundraiser for the Mount Horeb Landmarks Foundation will be at the historic District #1 Schoolhouse at 110 North 2nd Street. The Ice Cream Social is from 5 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Enjoy a picnic in the park along with the Band Concert which will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Annual Pie Auction will be at 7:15 p.m. Pulled pork sandwiches, chips, brownies and ice cream and beverages will be available for purchase. The Community Band always provides toe tapping entertainment with familiar tunes.
The entertaining Pie Auction follows the band concert with auctioneer Jim Schmidt calling for bids on pies made by local bakers to raise funds for the continued restoration of the 1889 Schoolhouse.
If weather dictates, the event will be inside the schoolhouse, so come rain or shine, to the District #1 Schoolhouse at 110 N. 2nd Street. Bring a lawn chair if you choose. All proceeds will go toward the continuing restoration and maintenance of the Schoolhouse, which is available for use for community and private events and is host of the School Days and Home Life program for 4th graders each spring.

The annual meeting of Mount Horeb Landmarks Foundation, Inc. will be held Monday, September 27, at 7 p.m. at the historic District #1 Schoolhouse, 110 N. 2nd Street. All members and prospective members of the Foundation are welcome to attend the meeting which will report on the activities of the past year, plans for the coming year and financial information of the all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Election of board members and officers will be held.

To renew annual memberships or join the Foundation, dues may be sent to Mount Horeb Landmarks Foundation, Inc., 138 E. Main Street, Mount Horeb. Annual membership dues are only $25 or a lifetime membership is $200. To help preserve and maintain the District #1 Schoolhouse, the Foundation welcomes new and renewal members as well as other donations and assistance with events. Purchasing a brick to be placed in the schoolhouse walkway is also a way to donate as well as honor an important person. Information about memberships and brick donations can be found on the Landmarks Foundation website, www.MountHorebLandmarks.com.

 The school house is also available as an interesting historic venue for meetings and personal events.  For more information, click below
