There have been an uptick in dog bites recently in town in the past month, especially with unvaccinated and unlicensed dogs.

It is important and your responsibility as a dog owner to make sure they have a current rabies vaccine and that the dog is licensed in the town you live in, whether that be Mount Holly or any town in the state of Vermont and beyond. This is a state requirement.

If your dog bites someone and the dog does not have a current rabies vacination the person that got bit has to under go a series of very painful rabies shot. Also regardless of whether dog has a current rabies vaccine or not the dog has to undergo confinement and observation for 10 days to confirm if they have any rabies symptoms. At this point they need to be vacinated and licensing needs to happen.

Even the friendliest of dogs may bite given non ideal circumstances, please get them vacinated and licensed.

Also note the Town of Mount Holly’s Animal Control Officer (ACO) effective this September is the:

Rutland County Sheriff

It will be the Sheriff responding to dog bites. The Town Health Officer also has be involved with dog bites and complete reporting per state statutes.

Further information can be found in our dog ordinance:

The Highway Crew is working to clean up after the ice storm. And is in close contact with GMP with trees that are tangle up with wires. GMP has to tackle those due to safety concerns with potentially live wires

Ninevah area got the worst of it, but they are aware of the other roads that need cleanup. They are focusing on making a sure roads are passable first and then will focusing on other cleanup. They had a long day yesterday and were back at it before sunrise this morning.

Remember to not touch trees tangled up wires. AND take it slow.

Stay safe! Crews are making progress, restoring power to 9,900 customers so far and they’re still going as ice buildup from the regionwide storm is causing damage in some locations. In addition to GMP’s full team, we have external crews to assist our crews as needed. This photo is from Mt. Holly. Stay away from any downed lines or trees and stay safe!
