Mount Gilead Moving Ahead: Our Town 2040 was officially adopted by the Town Commissioners at their August 02, 2021 meeting. The vote to adopt the plan and Future Land Use Map came after the Commissioners hosted a public hearing on the plan. The Town of Mount Gilead will host an open-house on July 22nd from 4-7pm at the Fire Station. The community will have the opportunity to review printed copies of the Mount Gilead Moving Ahead: Our Town 2040 Comprehensive Plan. This is a casual drop-in event. Town staff will be on-site to discuss the plan and answer questions. Hope to see you there!

Another sneak-peek at whats inside Mount Gilead Moving Ahead:

Public sentiment throughout the planning process expressed a desire to develop the Town-owned Shankle Property adjacent to Mount Gilead Elementary School into a destination community park. The concept illustrated here establishes the Shankle
Property as the “Town Green” and a true community gathering space and performance venue in the center of Town.

ONLINE SURVEY IS LIVE THROUGH JULY 31ST!

Mount Gilead citizens and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the second phase of public outreach for Mt. Gilead Moving Ahead by completing the online survey found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PQD8H3R

The survey has been extended for an additional month to provide an opportunity for more citizens to review draft Vision Statements, Policy Goals, a Future Land Use Map, and supporting conceptual visuals for the future of Mt. Gilead.

The survey will be open until June 31st. Scroll through our earlier posts for more background on the Mt. Gilead Moving Ahead project or email [email protected] with questions.

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT RE-SCHEDULED!
The second phase of public engagement for the Mount Gilead Moving Ahead comprehensive plan will include a drop-in open house similar to the first workshop and an online alternative. Both the drop-in open house and the online survey will invite citizens to provide feedback regarding Town vision statements, policy goals, the Draft Future Land Use Map, and supporting visuals. Social Distancing best practices will be in place at the open house and attendees are encouraged to wear a mask.

Citizens and stakeholders who prefer to provide feedback via an online format will have the opportunity to do so by completing an online survey. The survey will be live from June 15-June 30. The link to the survey will be posted here and at www.mtgileadnc.com so check back on Monday, 6/15!

ATTENTION: MAY PUBLIC WORKSHOP POSTPONED

Out of an abundance of care and consistent with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) limiting large gatherings, the second public workshop for Mt. Gilead Moving Ahead that was planned for early May will be postponed. The workshop WILL be rescheduled at a later date, so stay tuned for those details and other opportunities to engage with this project.

In the meantime, we are analyzing the great feedback and information collected at the first public workshop and translating those comments and ideas into a shared vision, policy goals, and future land use recommendations to be shared at the second workshop.
