Auditor Conni McChesney shares the same concerns as Sheriff Hinton regarding the proposed US 23 interchange project. She plans to attend upcoming meetings to address several financial implications associated with the project.
Specifically, Auditor McChesney will raise concerns about the potential impact on county tax revenue, the process and implications of CAUV (Current Agricultural Use Value) recoupment, and how the project may affect taxpayers—particularly in relation to effective tax rates and the taxpayer’s ability to generate sufficient revenue to meet levy obligations.
Her goal is to ensure that the financial impact on both the county and its taxpayers is fully evaluated and clearly understood before decisions are finalized.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has released new refined routes for the proposed connector between U.S. Route 23 and Interstate 71.
While earlier reports showed multiple potential routes across three counties, the most recent proposal indicates that nearly the entire connector would run through the southern portion of Morrow County. The areas that appear to be most affected are Peru Township and Westfield Township.
As Sheriff of Morrow County, I have serious concerns about how this proposal could impact the safety and accessibility of our community. Many county and township roads could be significantly disrupted. Without the construction of adequate bridges or crossings, some roads could become dead ends, creating barriers that would affect travel throughout the county.
These changes could lead to longer response times for law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other first responders who serve and protect our residents every day.
I strongly encourage all residents to stay informed and share your thoughts and concerns with the appropriate officials as this process continues.
