We’re pleased to spotlight Commissioner Sarah Lucido, who was first elected to the Macomb County Board of Commissioners in 2022 and reelected in 2024 to represent District 13, covering all of Eastpointe, southeast Warren, and southern St. Clair Shores. A lifelong Eastpointe resident, Commissioner Lucido brings extensive experience in local government, nonprofit leadership, and community service. She currently serves as Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee and was elected to the Board of Directors for the Michigan Association of Counties (MAC) in 2023.

Commissioner Lucido is committed to responsible budgeting, protecting taxpayers, strengthening Macomb County’s water and road infrastructure, and ensuring residents with disabilities and mental health needs have access to the support and services they deserve.

At yesterday's Full Board meeting, Commissioner Antoinette Wallace and Chair Joe Sabatini presented a Proclamation recognizing Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Dale K. Vande Vrede for receiving the Kimberly M. Cahill Civility Award by the Macomb County Bar Association. The Kimberly M. Cahill Civility Award is presented to a legal professional who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to respectful dialogue, ethical conduct, and the highest standards of professionalism, including fostering mutual respect among counsel, promoting meritorious advocacy, and upholding the dignity of the bench and bar. As Chief of the Drug Unit, Dale K. Vande Vrede has consistently embodied these principles, making him a well-deserved recipient of this award.

At today's Full Board meeting, Commissioners Sylvia Grot, Joseph V. Romano, and Chair Joe Sabatini presented a Proclamation congratulating Utica Community Schools for being recognized as one of the best communities for music education by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation. At today's Health and Human Services Committee meeting, Commissioners considered several items, including a budget amendment to increase the Health Grants Fund to be used for the Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP) and Public Health Infrastructure. MIHP provides free support to families during pregnancy and infancy, helping parents access resources, education, and guidance from trusted experts who work to meet the needs of each family.

At today's Internal Services Committee meeting, Commissioners considered several items, including a contract with City Elevator of Michigan for the Martha T. Berry Elevator Modernization Program. The program includes upgrades that ensure the elevators meet current safety, accessibility, and operational standards. The project will help provide a more comfortable living environment and support the mobility and independence of the senior residents at Martha T. Berry.

We’re delighted to spotlight Commissioner Sylvia Grot, who was first elected to the Macomb County Board of Commissioners in 2022 and reelected in 2024 to represent District 3, which includes most of Shelby Township and the City of Utica. Commissioner Grot brings a strong record of community involvement and leadership to the Board. She currently serves as Chair of the Macomb Orchard Trail Commission, was elected Sergeant at Arms by the Board of Commissioners, and serves as a Macomb County delegate to the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG). Her background in volunteerism, local politics, and community service continues to shape her common-sense approach to governing, commitment to fiscal responsibility, and dedication to improving infrastructure throughout her district.
