MT. ANGEL PUBLIC LIBRARY— SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2026

The Mt. Angel Public Library Summer Reading Program’s kick-off celebration is June 12th from 12:30pm-3:00pm! Join us to sign-up, for free books, games, crafts, prizes, and sno-cones all afternoon. The theme for this year’s summer reading program is "Plant a Seed, Read!/Planta una Semilla, Lee!", encouraging everyone to read and learn about all the ways we plant seeds in our lives. Planting seeds brings us the food we eat, the flowers we decorate our homes with, and all the other wonderful ways that plants improve our lives. And, just like planting a seed in the earth, we plant new ideas and stories in our minds through reading! The summer reading program is free and open to all ages, whether you’re 1 year old or 100 years old. We'll see you at the library!

REDUCING SPEED LIMITS TO 20MPH IN MT. ANGEL

To further improve safety, additional speed limit reductions are being introduced alongside the changes that were made on Main Street in December 2025.

The Mt. Angel City Council passed Ordinance 785, declaring the speed limit of 20 miles per hour on residential streets inside the Mt. Angel city limits. The ordinance will take effect on June 3, 2026, however, signs will need to be purchased and posted before the speed is official. It is likely that the new speed limit signs will be posted over time and will not happen immediately. You can read more about it on our website in the links for the April City Council meeting or watch the recorded meeting at: www.mtangel.gov/agendalist.aspx?categoryid=10147.

In addition, City Manager/Chief of Police Mark Daniel, is working with Marion County to institute speed reduction zones on arterial roads that are under Marion County jurisdiction as they enter the city. A speed limit of 40 miles per hour will be posted 1,320 feet prior to the city boundary line to help drivers slow down before the abrupt change in speed that we currently have. This will be similar to the speed reduction zones on HWY 214. We are the second city to work with Marion County on these types of zones, and other rural cities will be seeing the same in the future as the county intends to continue implementing this important safety measure. Handouts provided by Marion County can be viewed in the links for the May City Council meeting as well as watching the recorded meeting at: ww.mtangel.gov/agendalist.aspx?categoryid=10147.

SPRING CLEANING

Spring has finally arrived and with that hopefully the sun too! Nicer weather also means more tourists. The City would like to remind you to remove your garbage cans from the road, sidewalk, and public right-of-way. They should be moved back to the side of your house or inside your garage. The community is more inviting when the winter weeds and blackberries are cut back and debris is removed from the front yard. Please do your part to keep the City of Mt. Angel a pleasant place to visit and revisit!

BUSINESS FEATURE—MARIO PEREZ PHOTOGRAPHY

Are you thinking about taking family pictures or for a special event like graduation?

Mario Perez Photography is a local photographer here in Mt. Angel. What started as a hobby, taking photos of beautiful destinations that he traveled to and uploading his work on social media, turned into offers for his photographs. Realizing there was a need to be filled, he established his photography business in 2019, creating a website and starting to get requests for private sessions.

Serving his clients with many photography needs, he offers free consultation and print-on-demand. Mario’s scope of talent includes landscape pictures for homes or offices, seascapes and Astrophotography, single portraits, family sessions, Prom and Graduation sessions. All his sessions are outdoors and if you are traveling from out of state, he has destination sessions available.

Mario wants potential customers and residents of Mt. Angel to know “I am here to serve the community with their needs. For local businesses, I am available to assist them with capturing unique and cozy pictures for their advertising needs.” To schedule a consultation or get in contact with Mario visit his website imagesbymarioperez.us or follow his work on his Instagram (mario_perez_photography and imagesbymarioperez) accounts where he normally advertises promos or discounts.

HONORING OUR COUNTRY

Have you ever noticed the American flags placed all around town during a holiday? The Mt. Angel American Legion Chapter purchases American flags and places them around town for seven patriotic holidays (Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, and Veterans Day). The month of May is the only month that they put out flags on two different days. All American Legion members are veterans who have served honorably in our US military.

The Mt. Angel American Legion also holds ceremonies for the proper disposal of unserviceable flags. If you have an unserviceable American flag, they have a drop box at 740 E. College Street.

If you wish to support their Legion Flag program, or if you’re interested in other Legion activities, please contact Martha or Jim Kosel at: 503-845-6119.
