It is with heavy hearts that Franklin Community Volunteer Fire Department mourns the loss of former firefighter Logan Utt, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while serving his community as a Sheriff’s Deputy.

Before his career in law enforcement, Logan proudly served as a part-time firefighter with Franklin Community Volunteer Fire Department. During his time with our department, he demonstrated the same dedication, courage, and commitment to helping others that he carried throughout his life.

The fire service and law enforcement communities share a common bond of service and sacrifice. Logan embodied those values every day, answering the call to protect and serve wherever he was needed. His unwavering commitment to his community and his fellow first responders will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to Logan’s family, friends, fellow deputies, and all who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him. While words cannot ease the pain of this tremendous loss, we hope they find comfort in knowing that his life made a lasting impact on countless people.

Please join us in keeping the Utt family, his law enforcement family, and all those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Deputy Logan Utt. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your dedication to others. Your watch is over; we have it from here.

We have been in negotiations with the county over this contract for the last few months.
We now have a deadline of today to sign. This is the letter sent this morning to the County Manager, County Attorney and every Commissioner as one last attempt to negotiate. We want to be very transparent.

We have not received a response except for the release from Surry on the Go page today.

Today at 5:31pm, FCVFD in our primary response area, was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the area of South Franklin Road and Summit Dr.

Mount Airy Fire Department, Bannertown Volunteer Fire Department, and Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department was automatically dispatched with FCVFD.

FCVFD member arrived on scene within 1 minute of dispatch and with Engine 1 within 2 minutes of dispatch, thanks to paid staff at the station.

FCVFD investigated the incident and found that it was a large control burn.

FCVFD responded with 14 volunteers along with 3 engine’s and 2 tankers. Mount Airy Fire Department, Bannertown Volunteer Fire Department, and Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department all responded with members and trucks to assist. We are very thankful for their response.

Thankfully this was not an actual structure fire but FCVFD was ready to respond with trucks and volunteers if there was an emergency.

To Our Community,

We want to take a moment to keep the citizens of our district informed about ongoing discussions involving proposed county fire department contracts and funding changes that could directly impact volunteer fire departments across the county, including Franklin Community Volunteer Fire Department.

Over the past several weeks, our department has carefully reviewed the proposed contract language and submitted concerns to county officials regarding several portions that we believe could negatively affect our operations, financial stability, and long-term ability to provide the level of service our community deserves.

Franklin Community Volunteer Fire Department has always operated with one mission in mind — protecting our community and serving our citizens to the absolute best of our ability. Our members dedicate countless hours responding to emergencies, training, maintaining equipment, and supporting this district because we genuinely care about the people who live here.

At this time, there are still many unanswered questions regarding how these proposed changes may affect volunteer departments moving forward. While we remain committed to working professionally and cooperatively through this process, we also believe our community deserves transparency and honest communication about concerns that may impact emergency services in this district.

We encourage residents to stay informed, ask questions, and remain engaged as these discussions continue. Community support and involvement are extremely important during times like these.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. We will do our best to answer questions and provide updates as information becomes available.

Thank you for your continued support of Franklin Community Volunteer Fire Department and the volunteers who proudly serve this community.
