The City of Moundridge adopted a new ordinance at the city council meeting last night regarding electric-assisted scooters and other self-propelled scooters/pocket bikes.

The goal of this new ordinance is to provide clear expectations for riders while keeping pedestrians, motorists, and other members of our community safe.

Some of the key rules include:
• Scooters shall be ridden on public sidewalks whenever one is reasonably available. When a sidewalk in not available, riders may ride on the street to the nearest available sidewalk.
• Pedestrians always have the right-of-way on sidewalks.
• The maximum speed allowed is 15 MPH.
• Riders under 16 are required to wear a helmet.
• Scooters may not be operated on streets with a 35 MPH or higher speed limit.
• No passengers allowed unless the scooter is specifically designed to carry two people.
• Scooters operated between sunset and sunrise must have the required lighting/reflectors.
• Scooters are not permitted in designated areas such as grassed park areas, tennis/pickleball/basketball courts, fire lanes, or public parking facilities except where specifically allowed.

Our goal is simple: keep our sidewalks, streets, parks and downtown area safe and enjoyable for everyone. We appreciate everyone doing their part to follow the rules and look out for one another.

Back to school is almost here, and the City is currently working on installing new school zone speed limit beacons on East Cole Street. This is a much-needed improvement for the safety of our students, families, and community. A big thank-you to our Electric Department for doing the installation!
⚠️ Please pay close attention to the new speed limit: The old school zone speed limit was 25 MPH. The new school zone speed limit has been reduced to 20 MPH.
As school gets ready to start, please slow down, stay alert, and help keep our kids safe! 🏫🚸

📢 Budget Workshop Tonight!

The City of Moundridge will be holding a Budget Workshop today, August 11, at 5:00 PM at the Moundridge City Office.

The workshop is part of the City’s process of preparing the 2027 City Budget.

📅 Upcoming Public Hearing:
The City will hold its Revenue Neutral Rate and Budget Hearing on September 1, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Moundridge City Office, 225 S. Christian Ave.

This hearing will provide taxpayers an opportunity to ask questions and comment on the proposed use of funds, the amount of ad valorem tax, and the Revenue Neutral Rate.

🚨 Power Flash Update 🚨

If you noticed your lights flicker or experienced a brief power flash, here's what happened:

City crews were replacing a transformer when the new transformer unexpectedly failed. This caused a brief power interruption for many customers.

For most residents, the outage should have only been a quick flash. If you are still without power, please contact the City Office at 620-345-8246 so we can make sure your outage is reported.

Residents in the Ridgewood neighborhood: We are already aware of the outage affecting your area, so there is no need to call at this time.
