Lake Minnetonka Conservation District

Lake Minnetonka Conservation District The Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) is a regional agency of fourteen member cities responsible for protecting the lake and managing its use.

The Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) is a regional governmental agency created under State enabling legislation in 1967. The District is governed by a Board of Directors composed of one member appointed by the City Councils of the 14 cities surrounding Lake Minnetonka. The LMCD is responsible for protecting the Lake and managing its use. The LMCD responsibilities have evolved over the

years. The District addresses water quality, environmental, public safety, quality of life and sustainability. Some water quality issues include red algae blooms, Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM), and aquatic invasive species (AIS). Other areas that are addressed include Quiet Water Areas (QWA), boat density, winter use regulations, boat density, docks, charter boats, district mooring areas, special events and winter de-icing. Save the Lake is an initiative of the LMCD established in the 1970’s to address the Lake’s supplemental needs of public safety, environmental, and public service/education. Contributions to Save the Lake are generally tax deductible to individuals under the IRS Code 26 USC Section 170 (b)(1)(a). Save the Lake also provides grants for eligible projects. More information about Save the Lake can be found on the LMCD website. LMCD works closely with its partners such as the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol, local Fire Departments, Minnesota DNR, Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, and member cities to ensure a positive Lake Minnetonka experience for current and future generations.
