🚨 Community Safety Update 🚨

Linn County Kansas Sheriff's Office

We want to share an update with our community regarding a law enforcement response at the Pleasanton Campground.

On September 7, 2026, officers with the Pleasanton Police Department and deputies with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Pleasanton Campground on 18th Street after receiving a report of a suicidal subject.

When officers and deputies arrived, they located an individual in the campground area who was armed with a handgun. Because several people were nearby, law enforcement quickly secured the area and began evacuating the campground to help keep everyone safe.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was requested to assist, along with a deputy specially trained in crisis negotiations. Negotiations continued for several hours as responders worked toward a peaceful and safe resolution.

Through patience, teamwork, and the efforts of crisis negotiation personnel, the individual was persuaded to disarm and move into an open area, where Special Response Team members were able to safely take them into custody.

✅ No injuries were reported.

We appreciate the Pleasanton Police Department, Linn County deputies, Special Response Team members, and crisis negotiation personnel for their professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to protecting our community.

💙 If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, please call or text 988 to reach the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline. Help is available 24/7.

Public Service Announcement

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving criminals impersonating Apple representatives and government officials.

In a recent incident, a local resident received a notification claiming that someone had accessed their Apple Pay account and used it to purchase and view child po*******hy. The victim was then directed to a phone number where the scammers claimed the victim's phone had been hacked and that the hacker was located in China.

The victim was later contacted by another scammer who claimed to be an inspector with the Social Security Administration.

The scammer told the victim that someone at their bank was responsible and instructed them to withdraw $10,000 in cash and send it through UPS to an address in California. The victim followed the instructions, resulting in a $10,000 financial loss.

Please join us in welcoming Austeja to Linn County!
Linn County has a special visitor this summer! Austeja Varyte, a university student from Lithuania, is here as part of a summer exchange program. She will be visiting local families to share educational books, study guides, ACT/SAT prep, bibles and learning apps for children and students—from toddlers all the way through college.

If you see Austeja out and about, please give her a warm Kansas welcome. A friendly wave, a kind conversation, or a little small-town hospitality can go a long way in making her visit a great experience.

Welcome to Linn County, Austeja! 🌻
