Friends of Loess Bluffs is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation All donations and revenues from the Nature Shop sales go to the Refuge. In addition to the staff at Loess Bluffs NWR, the Refuge counts on volunteers to assist in numerous projects annually. Note that you can always volunteer directly at Loess Bluffs without being a Friends member. Those who have a special interest in helping and suppor
ting the Refuge can join our group Friends of Loess Bluffs NWR. Our group helps the Refuge with human and financial resources. Volunteering in the Nature Shop is one of the major ways of helping support the refuge. The fall migration starts with some shore birds as early visitors. Later, huge numbers of ducks and snow geese appear in number and refuge visitation increases. Beginning in mid-October, the Nature Shop opens on Saturdays as well as the normal five days a week. It is helpful to have two volunteers for each date. To volunteer, pick out a date or dates on a weekday or Saturday between October 16 and November 30 and

When your request a specific date, Friends will respond by confirming that date to you and by putting your name on a master list for the Refuge. If you sign up for a date that already has two volunteers, we will contact you by email and try to adjust to meet your situation. Unless you are comfortable running the Nature Shop by yourself, we will plan to have someone there to help you.
