In observance of National Telecommunicators Week, we would like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank the outstanding men and women of Lawrence County 911. Our dispatchers have had to navigate a trying few months, replete with tragic events, and are often underappreciated for their vital role as first responders. The public may not be fully aware of the complexities and challenges inherent in this position, which requires long, grueling hours and days that do not always have a positive outcome. Despite these difficulties, they continue to show up, shift after shift, ensuring that someone is always available to respond to calls for service and provide support to our responders in the field. Lawrence County is fortunate to have some of the most tenacious and dedicated professionals in this field. We invite you to join us in expressing our heartfelt appreciation to these individuals who make a profound impact on our community.

Public Service Announcement. The public is hereby informed that the Lawrence County Alabama Police Scanner Page on Facebook has no affiliation with 911, our law enforcement officers, firefighters, or EMS crews. This site has been publicly requested to contact 911 to discuss the posts they have made regarding radio traffic via Lawrence County, but has not responded. Many of their posts contain false information, including misinformation, misleading information, omitted information, or added information that did not exist in the transmissions. They also push a subscription for $4.99 per month, showing that this page is content-driven, not public information-driven, meaning they are relying on people to subscribe at a monetary level rather than provide accurate information. They rely heavily on an AI-generated app called Crime Radar for their content, as evident from the screenshots they have posted to support this, which has led to numerous false reports to the public. This issue is not limited to today, but has been ongoing for several months. We advise the public to seek information from reliable sources, such as a programmed scanner or via your App Store, and simply search for police scanner and look for the orange image of a radio that says “police” (pictured below), rather than relying on the Lawrence County Alabama Police Scanner Page, which is unreliable and fails to correct information, even when provided by a reliable source. 911 has publicly reached out to them regarding this matter, but has received no response. Our responders at the scenes and dispatchers who take the calls are frustrated with this page due to its disregard for accuracy. If you know who operates this page, please send a private message to 911 so we may take lawful and justifiable action to address this issue as soon as possible. We owe it to our citizens to provide accurate information that does not cause confusion and panic within our communities as well as spreading medical information on our elderly and vulnerable during medical calls that is only supposed to be for our first responders to get our citizens help. We thank the public for their understanding and support.

Central/911 is experiencing an outage right now with Spectrum so you will not be able to get Active911 alerts right now. Paging for VHF and through Tango is still working. We will update once it’s back going. Thanks!

Always dial 911 for fire departments, even if you don’t consider it to be an emergency. When you call a number off of Facebook or from the web, it takes time and possibly loses information. When you dial 911, it’s recorded and locations can be tracked; especially if someone loses conciousness. 911 Dispatch also knows how to make contact with units, should they be out of their station. Thanks!

A winter weather update has been issued for downtown Moulton, where snowfall has commenced over the past couple of hours, resulting in hazardous road conditions due to ice accumulation. Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution and refrain from traveling unless absolutely necessary for emergency purposes. Due to the current road conditions, we cannot guarantee timely assistance in all areas. We urge individuals to prioritize their safety and avoid recreational activities involving ATVs, as the risks associated with stranded vehicles are substantial. Our emergency responders have already encountered two stalled razors, requiring a cautious rescue effort. We kindly request that the public consider the potential risks to both themselves and our responders, who prioritize emergency calls and aim to return to their families promptly.

We know snow has not fallen in the entire county. We ask you comment in your area if you have snowfall. It’s beautiful but let’s admire it from inside a safe, warm place!
