Members of the MVFC took advantage of a beautiful summer evening on Monday, June 8, 2026, to work on the basics, primarily focusing on hitting hydrants and setting up portable ponds.

Training like this helps ensure firefighters are prepared to establish reliable water supplies under a variety of conditions. In some areas, hydrant connections and water systems can differ from one district to another, requiring crews to quickly adapt their equipment and operations. In more rural locations where hydrants may not be available, portable ponds and tanker shuttle operations become critical for supplying water to the fireground.

Regular practice helps members develop the skills and confidence needed to secure a steady water source, no matter where an emergency occurs.

A nice shot of (l-r) Ladder 38, Engine 2, and Squad 5 soaking up some evening sun outside the firehouse.

Summer is knocking on the door, bringing warmer days, backyard gatherings, and plenty of activity throughout our community.

As the seasons change, one thing remains constant: the dedication of the volunteers of the Mottville Volunteer Fire Company. Day or night, rain or shine, our members stand ready to answer the call and serve our neighbors whenever they're needed.

We hope everyone enjoys a safe and memorable summer. And should an emergency arise, know that we're always here for our community.

On Monday, May 26, 2026, members of the Mottville Volunteer Fire Company were privileged to provide the Color Guard during the Memorial Day remembrance ceremony held alongside American Legion Post 317 and Auxiliary Unit at the historic Mottville Cemetery.

As we gathered in remembrance, we honored the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice helped defend the freedoms, values, and way of life that we hold so dear today.

It is both our duty and our honor to recognize those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the United States of America. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication will never be forgotten.

Today, and every day, we remember.

Monday evening, May 18, 2026, was both busy and productive for members of the Mottville Volunteer Fire Company (MVFC).

Members participated in a joint vehicle extrication drill alongside the Elbridge Fire Department, with training hosted at Blue Line Automotive, who generously provided both the vehicles and use of their property for the evening. The scenario focused on a simulated two-vehicle head-on collision, giving firefighters from both departments the opportunity to train together and sharpen critical rescue skills.

MVFC and EFD members paired up throughout the drill to practice a variety of extrication techniques, including door removal (“popping doors”), vehicle stabilization and cribbing, roof removal, and glass management.

As training was just getting underway, MVFC was dispatched mutual aid to the Marcellus Fire District for a reported explosion with heavy black smoke at an electrical substation near Scotch Hill Road and Dublin Road. While responding, crews were redirected to a second incident in Marcellus involving a reported electrical fire on Paul Street and Austindale Avenue. After quickly assisting at the scene, MVFC members returned to Elbridge around 17:45 hrs. to continue the evening’s training.

MVFC would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Elbridge Fire Department for coordinating the drill and to Blue Line Automotive for their hospitality and support. Opportunities for cross-departmental training like this are invaluable, allowing neighboring agencies to work side-by-side, build stronger working relationships, and improve the coordination and skills needed to better serve and protect our local communities when real emergencies occur.

At 10:05 hours on Friday, May 15, 2026, the Mottville Volunteer Fire Company, alongside other community partners, including the Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department, Skaneateles Ambulance Volunteer Emergency Services, participated in a Mock DWI crash simulation at Skaneateles High School.

The event was designed to raise awareness among student drivers about the very real dangers and consequences of impaired and distracted driving. During the simulation, first responders operated as they would at an actual emergency scene, from addressing hazards to treating and extricating patients.

This experience was intended to provide students with a powerful and realistic reminder of the importance of making safe and responsible decisions behind the wheel, especially during prom, school ball, and graduation season. We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside the Skaneateles Central School District to help make this educational program possible as we continue working to promote the safety and well-being of local students and the community.

The leading cause of preventable death after a traumatic injury is severe bleeding, so during last night’s weekly drill, MVFC members participated in a “Stop the Bleed” training to refresh their skills in controlling blood loss, including the proper use of tourniquets and other lifesaving techniques.

In addition, members of Marcellus Ambulance Volunteer Emergency Services (MAVES) also provided a hands-on demonstration of several pieces of EMS equipment, including their Stryker stretcher, stair chair, and LUCAS device — a mechanical CPR system designed to deliver automatic, consistent chest compressions during cardiac arrest emergencies.

We’re grateful to MAVES for taking the time to work with our members and help familiarize us with the equipment and procedures we may encounter while operating on emergency scenes.
