Please.
See the below message from our superintendent. Carol Lewis, there will be no preschool tomorrow Tuesday December 2nd.

Dear Moses Lake Community,

Due to the ongoing work stoppage involving our non-administrative certificated employees, there will be no school on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2.

Bargaining Update, December 1, 2025 - We will continue to update our community at 4pm daily.

November 30, at 7:00 PM, the District provided Moses Lake Education Association a comprehensive proposal for their consideration

The District bargaining team made itself available to receive counter proposals and engage in mediated bargaining beginning at 10:30 AM today

As of 3:30 PM this afternoon, the District had not received any proposals or responses from the Association

The District team will continue to be available throughout the evening to receive and review proposals provided by the Association

To review all proposals from the bargain, please visit our website HERE.

During the work stoppage, all MLSD school buildings will remain closed to the public. The Learning Services Center (district office) will remain open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday. Below is additional information on services available during the work stoppage:

Meals
The District will continue to offer free breakfast and lunch for all students each school day during the work stoppage:

Meals can be picked up daily at all elementary school locations from 11am to 12pm. Meals are available to enrolled students of the District. Middle and high school students may pick up meals at the elementary school in their service area.

Boys & Girls Club

Due to the ongoing Moses Lake School District school closures, Boys & Girls Club is currently unable to access any school-based buildings. For now, the McGraw Clubhouse will be the ONLY Club location open.

Hours: 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM

Drop-in begins at 3 PM

Teens are welcome — we are preparing a space for them

Monthly Fee: $15/month per individual or $25/month per family

Boys & Girls Club Transportation Update (Starting Tomorrow, 12/2)

Boys & Girls Club is working on offering transportation beginning tomorrow, December 2nd. If you’d like more information or want to check availability, please call the McGraw Clubhouse at (509) 764-9694.

Athletics & Activities

With the Moses Lake Education Association (Association) initiating a work stoppage, the District has activated its continuity plans to maintain key student activities during this disruption.

As part of this effort, coaches have been given the opportunity to continue winter sports practices at Moses Lake High School, Columbia Middle School, Endeavor Middle School, and Frontier Middle School. During the work stoppage, student athletes and families will be responsible for their own transportation to and from practice.

The District’s rationale is straightforward:
Missed school days can be made up. Missed athletics seasons cannot.

Opportunities for students to grow, compete, and participate in athletics are time-bound and cannot be reproduced later in the school year. We will not take these opportunities away from our kids. Athletics offer structure, connection, teamwork, and personal growth—benefits that matter deeply, especially during periods of uncertainty. We intend to preserve these experiences for students whenever safely possible.

Coaching during a work stoppage will remain a voluntary choice for coaches. Those who choose to continue their work with students will be supported in doing so.

What About Games?

The District understands that the natural question from families is: “Will competitions continue?”
At this time, the District believes that all contests will continue as scheduled. Should a change be necessitated, the District will communicate such to the community via its normal channels. Transportation to and from competitions will be provided by the District.

Activities Continuing During the Work Stoppage

The District remains committed to ensuring students do not miss educational opportunities whenever possible. Advisors of student activities connected to time-bound competitions or events will have the opportunity to continue, as these experiences are time-sensitive and cannot be recreated later in the year. Advisors who choose to volunteer during this period will be supported by the District.

REMINDER: Transportation will not be provided. Coaches and advisors will communicate schedules directly to families.

Bargaining Updates

MLSD remains committed to negotiating in good faith to reach an agreement that:

is fair,

is fiscally responsible, and

can be sustained over the long-term.

Updates will be posted at: www.mlsd161.org.

If you have specific questions, not discussed in the daily update please email them to [email protected]. You can also call our Information Line at 509.793.7769 for daily recorded updates.

We know a disruption like this is challenging for our families. We are grateful for your patience as we work toward an agreement so we can welcome students back to class as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Carol Lewis, Superintendent
Moses Lake School District

SCHOOL HAS NOT BEEN CANCELLED AT THIS TIME.
WE WILL LET YOU KNOW BY 5:00 ON SUNDAY WHETHER OR NOT SCHOOL WILL BE IN SESSION ON MONDAY.
Please read the message below for more details.

Hello Moses Lake School District Community,

The Moses Lake School District prioritizes the education, safety, and well-being of our students, and we want to share some important updates with you.

Although no official communication has been made from the Moses Lake Education Association to the Moses Lake School District, the District has received informal information that the Association intends to stop work on Monday, December 1, if a tentative labor agreement has not been reached by Sunday, November 30. We have also seen that many news outlets are reporting that a strike will begin on Monday.

We understand this news is upsetting and creates uncertainty for our students and their families, and we are committed to providing you with the information you need in order to plan for Monday. We will communicate with families NO LATER THAN 5:00 PM on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30, through ParentSquare, to let you know whether or not school will be in session on Monday, December 1.

The District remains committed to bargaining a fair and financially responsible labor agreement with the Association. On Wednesday, November 26, the Association informed the District, through a mediator, that it would be ready to provide the District with a proposal on Sunday, November 30, but not sooner. The District will be ready to receive and respond to any proposals it receives on Sunday.

Since June, all proposals from both parties have been posted on the Moses Lake School District website, linked HERE. Included in the District’s most recent proposal are:

Reinstating elementary teacher planning time during the student day beginning in the 2026-27 school year, which would provide students with more specialist time each day (PE, Music, Library, etc.)

52 hours per year of professional development provided by the District to every Association member

A salary increase of the state-determined inflationary percentage of 2.57% for every association member

The long term success of each and every student in our school district will always be my highest priority. I appreciate your patience as we navigate this difficult time. Detailed information for families can be found below.

Thank You,
Carol Lewis, Moses Lake School District Superintendent

Facilities Closed to Students and Visitors

For the safety of staff and community members, all the District school buildings and facilities will be closed to students and visitors during the work stoppage.

If students have essential items, including medications, they can stop by their school’s main office during normal school hours starting Monday, December 1, 2025, through Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Noon.

Community use of our facilities for scheduled events will continue as long as it is possible to do so.

Only essential personnel will be permitted on-site.

Calendar Adjustments
We know learning loss is a concern for many. Please be assured that state law requires any missed instructional days to be made up after the stoppage ends, and our students will receive the required 180 days of instruction regardless of a work stoppage.

The current last day of school is June 5, 2026.

Additional days will be added beginning June 8, 2026, depending on the duration of the closure.

All calendared events, including all high school graduations, will be shifted by the total number of days lost during a work stoppage.

Food Services
The District will provide one breakfast and one lunch each day for enrolled MLSD students to pick up beginning on Monday, December 1, 2025.
Pick-Up Time: 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Pick-Up Locations: Elementary schools only; Groff students can pick up at either Garden Heights or Lakeview.
Eligibility: Meals are available only for students currently enrolled in the Moses Lake School District.
Families with middle school or high school students may pick up meals at the elementary school serving their attendance area.
We appreciate your flexibility as we work to ensure students continue to have access to meals during this disruption.
MLSD Work Stoppage Information Hotline
A recorded daily update will be available beginning December 1 at: (509) 793-7769

This message will be refreshed once each day and will reflect the same information shared in the 4:00 p.m. update.

Athletics & Activities
Unlike academics, athletics, and activities cannot be made up at the end of the school year, and in order to offer these opportunities for our students, the District will offer coaches and advisors the option to continue providing services to students throughout the work stoppage. Coaches and advisors will be in direct contact with athletes and participants regarding all practices, events, and competitions.

To preserve time-sensitive student opportunities:

Middle and High School winter sports competitions and practices may continue based on coach participation.

Families will need to provide their own transportation to and from practices, and the District will provide transportation from school sites to and from competitions.

Certain activities connected to academic competitions may continue, depending on advisor availability.

We had an exciting visit from the Grant County Fire District. Our students learned all about fire safety, explored the fire truck, and even got to see the firefighters’ gear up close. They were also treated to little goodie bags — be sure to check your child’s backpack! 🎒

We’re so grateful for the generosity and kindness of our community in helping teach our early learners.
Thank you, Grant County Fire District, for making today so special! ❤️

Today, we wrapped up our first week of preschool with some very special guests — Valor and Bea from New Hope’s Support Dogs! 🐶✨
Valor and Bea are trained working dogs who regularly work with children, offering comfort, support, and connection. Our classrooms were full of smiles and excitement as the kids got to meet and interact with these amazing pups.
It was a joyful and heartwarming way to end our first week together. We loved watching the children’s faces light up — and it’s safe to say, Valor and Bea made quite a few new friends today! 💛
Thank you to New Hope’s Support Dogs for visiting us!
