Happy EMS Week! ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’™

Thank you to the EMTs, Paramedics, EMS drivers, volunteers, and mutual aid partners who answer the call every day. Over 75% of our 3,100+ annual calls are medical emergencies or traumatic injuries, and our EMS team is there to provide compassionate care when our community needs it most.

Our volunteers dedicate countless hours each month training, serving, and responding at a momentโ€™s notice. From college students to retirees, new members to those with 30+ years of service โ€” this teamโ€™s dedication, experience, and heart make our community stronger.

EMS is more than emergency response. Our team also helps keep our community safe through CPR and Stop the Bleed classes, station tours for kids, fall prevention education, and other community risk reduction programs.

The work is rewarding, challenging, and sometimes heartbreaking, and we are incredibly grateful for all you do. Thank you also to our City administrative staff who help keep the wheels rolling behind the scenes, and to the families, pets, coworkers, and friends who support us through the toughest days.

Thank you for serving Moscow and the surrounding communities.

๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿš’ Celebrating Our Spring MVFD Class Graduates & Lifesaving Teams ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ‘

This spring, we are proud to recognize the dedication, hard work, and commitment of our volunteers who completed advanced training through courses offered by the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department.

Congratulations to our graduates of:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Firefighter II โ€“ advancing skills in firefighting operations, leadership, and incident command
๐Ÿš‘ EMT Optional Module (OM) โ€“ gaining advanced EMS skills including IV therapy, airway management, and more - this class was a partnership with our Latah County EMS volunteer agencies.
๐Ÿ“š Instructor I โ€“ preparing the next generation of fire and EMS educators

We also had the honor of recognizing several of our First Responders with a Lifesaving Award for their teamwork and professionalism during major incidents and CPR saves.

To all of our volunteers โ€” thank you for going above and beyond to further your skills and serve others with dedication and compassion. Thank you to all the MVFD volunteers and staff who were IV practice arms for the OM students.

A heartfelt thank you to the families and friends who supported these volunteers through the many long nights of classes and training.

Thank you to our incredible instructor teams for the time, knowledge, and mentorship you provide to help our responders succeed.

Thank you everyone for your hard work and dedication! We are proud of each and every one of you! โค๏ธ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘

๐ŸŽ“ Congratulations to Volunteer EMT Kasen Evans on graduating from the University of Idaho today with a double major in Biochemistry and Microbiology! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš‘

Originally from Nampa, Idaho, Kasen joined the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department EMS Division two years ago while attending the University of Idaho. Since then, he has dedicated countless hours serving our community while balancing an incredibly demanding academic schedule.

After graduation, Kasen will continue his education at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he will pursue his doctoral degree and work toward becoming a physician. ๐Ÿฉบ

Kasen shared:

โ€œVolunteering for the MVFD has been a great experience as Iโ€™ve gone through my education. Itโ€™s been fun and insightful to give back to the community thatโ€™s been supporting me during my undergrad. It allowed me to get hands-on experience in medicine and allowed me to make my mind up about becoming a physician. Iโ€™ve made a lot of great connections and have met some amazing people.โ€

Thank you, Kasen, for your dedication to our department and the Moscow community. Your hard work, compassion, and commitment to service have made a lasting impact, and we have no doubt you are going to be an amazing physician someday.

We wish you all the best in this next chapter โ€” and thank you for your service! โค๏ธ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘

๐ŸŽ“ Please join us in congratulating Jake Nelson! ๐ŸŽ“

After nearly 3ยฝ years of volunteering as a EMT with MVFD, Jake is graduating with a Bachelorโ€™s in Medical Science, with minors in Microbiology and Pre-Health Professions Studies from the University of Idaho.

Originally from Emmett, Idaho, Jake plans to take a gap year working as an ER Tech or Medical Assistant while applying to medical school to continue pursuing his dream of becoming a physician.

When reflecting on his time with MVFD, Jake shared:

โ€œVolunteering with MVFD was the most valuable experience I had during college. Nearly everything I know about being an EMT, patient care, and serving others came from my time with the department. The onboarding, training, and support from the volunteers, paramedics, and administrative staff set me up to succeed, but what made MVFD special was the people. I made great friends and connections, and the department truly felt like a family.

Serving the Moscow community was a privilege, and my time with MVFD helped me confirm my dream of becoming a physician one day. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to had been even just a small part of this department. MVFD is headed in a fantastic direction, and I will always be thankful for the role it played in my college experience.โ€

We are proud of everything Jake has accomplished and grateful for the dedication and service he brought to our department and community. We canโ€™t wait to see all he accomplishes next.

Congratulations, Jake, and best of luck on your next adventure! ๐Ÿš‘โค๏ธ
