Katrina Sims from Boise Idaho, spent her summer interning at Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary in McCall, Idaho, where she gained hands-on experience in wildlife rehabilitation and conservation.
Throughout her internship, Katrina assisted with intake exams for injured and orphaned wildlife by assessing body condition, taking X-rays, drawing blood, administering subcutaneous fluids, and helping develop individualized care plans. She also prepared specialized diets, administered medications, and worked alongside staff to provide around-the-clock care for the animals at the sanctuary.
In addition to animal care, Katrina contributed to property maintenance projects, including invasive w**d removal, clearing woody debris, and building and repairing fences and enclosures. She also worked with Snowdon's ambassador birds—a Red-tailed Hawk named Qa'Ya and an American Crow named Salem—at community events, helping create educational materials, present wildlife education programs, and answer questions from local residents about the species they encounter on their properties.
