Delaware County Intermediate Unit The Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) is a regional education services agency.

It is our mission to provide leadership for the development of innovative and cost-effective programs to meet the needs of our county. DCIU serves more than 80,000 school-aged students and more than 6,000 educators on a regional basis. Direct instruction is provided to more than 15,000 students enrolled in DCIU’s Special Programs, Career and Technical Education and specialized programs. The Delaware County Intermediate Unit is one of Pennsylvania’s 29 regional educational agencies. Established in 1970 by the State Legislature, IUs were charged with providing services in seven areas. DCIU grew to meet Delaware County’s needs by providing services best offered on a regional basis such as special education, technical education, services to nonpublic schools and technology. Today, more than 50 years in the business of serving the needs of Delaware County, DCIU has grown to provide more than $185 million worth of services through the management of 60 programs.

Serving Up Skills, Smiles, and a Delicious Breakfast at DCTS! 🍳

Students have been sharpening their skills in breakfast preparation and front-of-house operations, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the hospitality industry.

To create an authentic dining experience, students from DCIU’s Early Childhood Education programs were invited to be their “customers,” giving Culinary Arts students the opportunity to practice table service, customer service, and guest relations in a real-world setting.

From the kitchen to the dining room, the experience was well-organized, enjoyable, and delicious!

Kudos to Chef Fedeli and the Culinary Arts students for a job well done!

🌟Empowering Peers to Nurture Social Skills in Students with Complex Needs 🌟

Building friendships, fostering belonging, and developing social skills are essential to creating inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.

Join DCIU for a two-part professional development workshop designed for school counselors, school social workers, speech-language professionals, and gifted support teachers.

Participants will explore strategies to foster meaningful friendships and connections among students with diverse social, emotional, and physical needs. The workshops will provide practical tools to strengthen students' social skills while promoting empathy, leadership, and understanding among peers of varying abilities.

Cybercriminals are looking for an easy way in. Don’t give them one! 🔒

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and this year's theme, "Don't Make It Easy for Them," reminds us that protecting our digital world starts with the everyday choices we make.

From creating strong passwords and enabling multifactor authentication to recognizing phishing attempts and keeping software updated, small actions can make a big difference in protecting sensitive information.

At DCIU, cybersecurity is a year-round priority. Our Information Technology team works with school districts, local governments, and organizations across Pennsylvania to strengthen cybersecurity, protect critical information, and build safer, more resilient digital environments.

Thank you to the nonpublic school leaders from across Delaware County who joined us for DCIU's Nonpublic School Director Fall Meeting.

The meeting brought nonpublic school directors together to learn more about funding and grants available to their schools, mandates for nonpublic compliance, and opportunities for the nearly 14, 000 students supported by the 91 nonpublic schools in Delaware County.

Meaningful conversations and shared insights helped strengthen our collective commitment to supporting students and school communities throughout the region.

We appreciate everyone who attended and contributed to the engaging discussions and collaborative exchange of ideas!

A Little Pawsitivity Can Be the Best Medicine! 🐾

Students in DCTS's Medical Careers program recently welcomed a special guest: Mandy, a therapy dog from Comfort Caring Canines Therapy Dogs Inc.!

Mandy helped students discover that quality patient care goes beyond medical treatments. Through her visit, students learned how therapy dogs can bring comfort, reduce stress and anxiety, ease feelings of loneliness, and improve patients’ overall well-being.

But the benefits don't stop with patients! Therapy dogs can also provide much-needed emotional support to nurses and healthcare professionals, offering moments of comfort and relief from the demands of caring for others.

The visit gave students a firsthand look at the importance of a holistic approach to healthcare, where compassion, emotional support, and complementary therapies work alongside traditional medical treatments.

A little pawsitivity can make a big difference! Thank you to Mandy and Comfort Caring Canines Therapy Dogs Inc. for reminding our future healthcare professionals that sometimes the most meaningful care begins with a simple connection. ❤️

Congratulations to Jason Gonzalez on receiving the October DCIU STARS Award! 🌟

Through STARS (Sharing Talent and Recognizing Service), DCIU proudly honors team members who go above and beyond to support students, families, colleagues, and the community.

As DCIU’s Professional Development Specialist and Assistive Technology Consultant, Jason was nominated by students in the OPTIONS Program. Throughout the school year, Jason dedicates his time to teaching students how to use the technology and devices available in the Makerspace. Students shared that his patience and enthusiasm made learning both engaging and enjoyable and that they could always count on him for support when they needed help.

Make a difference in the lives of students with hearing loss. DCIU is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf to provide individualized instruction and support that helps students develop the academic, communication, and self-advocacy skills they need to succeed.

In this role, you will:

• Provide specialized instruction tailored to students' individual needs and IEP goals.

• Support the development of receptive and expressive language, listening skills, and academic achievement.

• Collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to create inclusive learning environments.

• Help students build confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills.
