🌻 We are sad to report that this year's sunflower field has been completely eaten by the deer population at Mounts Park. We have made many attempts to revive the plants early on and remained hopeful in our efforts but it seems we were unable to save the field this year.

We want to give a big "Thank You' to our Public Works/Parks department who spent so much time planting and getting the field ready. Then they tried many mitigations to save the field after the first wave of deer eating the plants. They tried additional water, looked into chemicals that were plant/animal friendly but would keep the deer away, fencing, etc.

Ultimately, nature took its course on our sunflower field. The one beautiful silver lining is just that....Nature. We are proud of the rustic and natural beauty of Mounts Park and will maintain this feeling. Next year, we will bring a new approach to the sunflower field to preserve the field along with the animals that surround it.

Thank you for all of the support around Mounts Park and the Sunflower Field. There is still plenty of beauty within the park so please come and visit.

Probably my last trip of the season to Mounts Park. It was an exciting one though! I got to see the bald eagle again and an osprey fishing from the lake. There was also a blue heron and three other birds sitting on a log. If anyone knows what they are called, please let me know. πŸ‚πŸŒΎπŸπŸ¦…πŸ‚

Mounts Park update.

On this crisp Fall morning, don’t forget to take advantage of the beautiful color-change occurring in Mounts Park. Enjoy the Park this week as it will be closing at sundown on Thursday and opening back up in the Spring with some wonderful upgrades. Please read the 2019 upgrades and the upcoming 2020 plans below.

2019 Upgrades:
1.) We opened the new entrance off of Stubbs Mills Rd. and added a gravel drive into the Park complimented by a new entrance sign.

2.) We started a new tradition by having a β€œPicnic in the Park” day for all of the residents to enjoy fellowship with one another while gathered at the Park.

3.) We created a sunflower field that became wildly popular thanks to a very dedicated group of volunteers.

2020 upgrades:
1.) We are happy to announce that this week, the Township received notice that we secured a grant to put an 8 foot wide, mulched walking trail around the entire perimeter of the small lake. This trail will include lakeside views, fully enclosed wooded views, and open field views as the trail will encompass all aspects of the park.

2.) We have completed the monitoring of the large lake and budgeted for a 3rd seasonal employee to be dedicated to mowing parks, affording us the ability to properly manicure, maintain, and open the large lake to the public for bank fishing this Spring.

3.) We will be finish-mowing a much larger area of the park to allow more areas for picnics, playing, and just enjoying the beauty of the Park.

Hamilton Township has continued to move Mounts Park forward over the past 3 years from it being completely closed to the public to being seasonally opened, and all of the upgrades listed above. We will continue to focus efforts on beautifying Mounts Park while keeping its rustic and naturalistic atmosphere.

These systematically scheduled upgrades are incremental for budgeting reasons and the available man-power of our Public Works Department. These progressive upgrades to the Park will continue in an effort to hopefully have Mounts Park open year-round in the coming years. None of this would have been possible without the actions of your Board of Trustees and the hard work of the Township staff and multiple groups of passionate volunteers.

Enjoy you weekend and enjoy your Park.

Hmmm, what do we think about this idea?πŸŽ„πŸŒ»

Stopped in at Mounts Park to visit the Sunflower Field today. While taking some photos of flowers and insects I looked up just in time to catch a bald eagle flying over. My camera wasn’t set for distance shots, but I couldn’t resist snapping a couple pictures. It’s blurry, but definitely an eagle. What a sight to see!πŸŒ»πŸ¦…
