Clayton County EMA recently participated in a three-day, night training exercise conducted by Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services. Members of the EMA team served as exercise evaluators and observers. The exercise focused on public safety readiness and was held in the parking lot of the new Morrow Arena. Other County public safety partners who also participated in the readiness training included CCPD and E-911/Dispatch. Morrow and Forest Park public safety personnel also took on an active role in the readiness exercise.

There were two training scenarios for safety personnel to respond to during the exercise. One scenario centered around an SUV plowing through a crowd leaving a FIFA Watch Party at the arena before losing control and crashing. The other scenario involved a potential explosive threat occurring in the parking lot as well. Community volunteers served as victims for the training exercise.

REMAIN COMMUNICATION READY DURING SEVERE WEATHER!

When disaster strikes, cell towers get overwhelmed. If everyone tries to call at once, the system crashes.

Texting -vs- Calling. Here's why:

By sending a text instead of making a call:

1️⃣ You leave the "voice lines" open for emergency responders.
2️⃣ Your message is more likely to get through on a weak signal.
3️⃣ You save precious battery life.

Clayton County EMA recently participated in a joint countywide agency exercise. Other major county participants included CCPD, CCFES, CCPS, CCWA, and Southern Regional Medical Center, with Clayton County Health District serving as the exercise lead agency. The full-scale biowatch scenario was based on the air detection of Bacillus Anthracis (Anthrax) in Atlanta. The county exercise was part of a larger metroAtlanta/DHS training involving volunteers from DeKalb and Fulton Counties. Drive-up and walk-up POD stations were set up in the Tara Stadium parking lot, along with a HazMat decon simulation area to properly manage any possible exposure situations.

Area public safety and health agencies are gearing up for the 2026 FIFA games by holding various preparedness training exercises.
