Today we remember the nearly 3,000 people lost 25 years ago, including 343 FDNY Firefighters, 37 Police Officers from NY Port Authority and New Jersey Police, 23 NYPD Officers, 8 EMTs and Paramedics from private companies, and 1 Patrolman from the New York Fire Patrol. We honor them for their commitment and their courage.

The San Luis Obispo County Integrated Waste Management Authority (IWMA) invites Morro Bay residents to safely dispose of their household hazardous waste (HHW) at an upcoming temporary collection event held at Cuesta College.

When: Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 11 AM to 3 PM
Where: Cuesta College - SLO Campus Parking Lot 3 (off of HWY 1)

Residents may bring up to 15 gallons or 125 lbs of accepted household hazardous waste for safe, free disposal.

The annual test of the Early Warning System Sirens is coming up!
The system will be tested on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at noon and 12:30 pm.
During this annual test, all 130 sirens are sounded at full volume for three minutes. The system is sounded twice to allow for emergency officials to test both the primary and backup activation points.
No action is required by the public for these tests. However, if you hear the sirens sound for three to five minutes at any other time, tune to a local television or radio station to learn what emergency actions you should take.
