The Voter Registration deadline for North Carolina’s upcoming election is on October 9th at 5pm. Check your Voter Registration to ensure it's updated at demnc.co/regcheck.

Note: If you miss this deadline, you can still register and vote during Early Voting. ⭐️

The North Carolina State Board of Elections just voted to adopt rules that make it easier for your mailed ballot to be rejected.

What changed:

*️⃣ Minor errors — such as an unsealed inner envelope — will now void your ballot entirely. County officials estimate this affects 3-20% of ballots in a typical election.

*️⃣ Only a “near relative or legal guardian” may assist you with your ballot, particularly affecting out-of-state students and recently relocated seniors.

And these measures passed with little public notice and despite formal objections.

If you have to vote by mail, make sure to:

✔️ Seal both the inner and outer envelopes completely
✔️ Return your ballot well ahead of the deadline
✔️ Track your ballot status through BallotTrax

Given these last-minute changes, consider voting early in person instead. North Carolina permits same-day registration during the early voting period, allowing you to register and vote in a single visit.

It’s time to vote, y’all!

The 2026 election officially begins today, September 4th, when absentee ballots start being sent out to voters who requested them. 📨

Recent USPS changes may cause mail delays, so be sure to request and return your ballot EARLY. 🐤

Note: If someone else returns your absentee ballot in person, they must be a near relative or legal guardian, with additional options for voters with disabilities.

NORTH CAROLINA VOTERS ‼️Your mail ballot process is currently unchanged.

Yesterday, a federal judge kept a block in place on USPS’s controversial new mail-ballot rule. States still can’t be forced into the new “Federal Ballot Mail Portal,” and NC’s normal mail-ballot process stands today.

That said, an active whistleblower has alleged the new system was rushed and poorly tested, and a court hearing this Thursday could shift things. It’s a fluid situation and we’re watching every move.

Our advice: don’t wait to request an absentee ballot!

NC starts sending mail ballots Friday so request yours as early as possible so you have plenty of buffer if anything changes

All summer, our Freedom Rising tour has crisscrossed the state registering voters, training community ambassadors, and building the organizing infrastructure to bridge Black and brown political power across county lines.

Today marks our final stop. But the movement we’ve built together? That’s just getting started.

, sixty-three years ago, more than 250,000 people gathered on the National Mall for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

Today, thousands more are gathering at the Lincoln Memorial to continue that same fight to protect the freedom to vote.

Looking back, our actions here in North Carolina are proof that the fight Dr. King helped lead in 1963 is still being carried forward today.

That movement is why we keep showing up ✊🏾
