Sharing from our student council page: Every year, our Senior Homecoming Court and their escorts participate in a fundraiser to collect money for United Way Hamblen County. Together they raised $1,462.77 this year, and the couple who raised the most got to present the check to UW reps Haley Fugate, Jen Winkler, and Jessica Rich. Congratulations to Miss Homecoming Cora Sanders and Mr. Homecoming Caleb Woolsey! Thank you to United Way for helping so many incredible organizations in our community. 🎉 Mrs. Skeen’s West High Clinical Internship Class is Ready to Begin! 🎉

After successfully completing all required training in Safety, Infection Control/Blood-borne Pathogens, HIPAA, Abuse/Neglect, and Professionalism, our Clinical Internship students are officially ready for their first clinical rotation!

Students have also earned their OSHA, BLS, and Stop the Bleed/First Aid certifications, preparing them with the knowledge and skills needed to begin this exciting hands-on experience.

For their first rotation, students are gaining valuable experience at several wonderful community partners, including Morristown-Hamblen Hospital/Covenant, Southern Orthocare, Dynamic, and Absolute Tx.

A huge THANK YOU to each of these organizations for welcoming our students, supporting their education, and helping prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals!

Students will rotate to new businesses and healthcare settings throughout the community every three weeks, giving them the opportunity to explore different careers, gain real-world experience, and discover where their passions may lead.

Stay tuned for the next adventures of our West High students! We can’t wait to share their experiences along the way!

Después de completar con éxito toda la capacitación requerida en Seguridad, Control de Infecciones/Patógenos Transmitidos por la Sangre, HIPAA, Abuso y Negligencia, y Profesionalismo, ¡nuestros estudiantes de Pasantía Clínica están oficialmente listos para comenzar su primera rotación clínica!

Los estudiantes también han obtenido sus certificaciones de OSHA, BLS (Soporte Vital Básico) y Stop the Bleed/Primeros Auxilios, lo que les brinda los conocimientos y las habilidades necesarias para comenzar esta emocionante experiencia práctica.

West High is excited to announce a new club this year, and it’s all because a young freshman expressed intense interest in being part of one. Our newly formed Chess Club is hoping to attract students who are already players or those interested in learning.

Students interested in chess are invited to Mrs. Hall’s room in the Freshman Academy this coming Wednesday, September 9 from 3:00-4:00. Informational sheets and permission slips will be given out at this time.

According to the US Chess Federation, “a record-setting 1,860 players from 37 states” competed in the National Championship tournament in Baltimore, MD this past April. This shows the popularity of chess among high schools nationwide. West is proud to be a part of this growing trend!

💧🌎 215,000+ BOTTLES SAVED — AND COUNTING! 🌎💧

More than 10 years ago, West High began an initiative designed to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles on our campus. Through a collaborative effort involving Trojan Army, West High Student Council, and the Hamblen County Department of Education, funding and implementation helped turn that idea into a lasting investment in our school and our environment.

Today, West High has seven environmentally friendly water bottle filling stations across campus—and we hope to add even more!

And those refill stations are making a difference. Our counters now show that more than 215,000 disposable plastic bottles have been saved! ♻️

To put that number into perspective, 215,000 typical single-use water bottles represent roughly 2½ tons of plastic that did not have to be used. If those bottles were placed end-to-end, they would stretch for approximately 27 miles—more than the distance of a marathon! 🏃‍♀️

Beyond reducing plastic waste, choosing reusable bottles also helps reduce the resources, energy, packaging, transportation, and waste associated with producing and distributing single-use bottled water.

What started more than a decade ago continues to make an impact with every refill.
