Well, after Mother Nature handled the watering duties for us, I think it’s safe to say the grass has been watered. 🌧️🌱

So go ahead and cross that one off the to-do list. ✅😂

Now for a weather alert we don’t get to issue nearly often enough…

The forecast data is looking pretty good for Morris County this week, with plenty of sunshine, comfortable temperatures, and some really nice September weather headed our way. ☀️

After the rain we just had, we figured everyone deserved some good news from the weather department!

☕️🌧️ Well, good morning,

On this dreary and wet Sunday morning, it’s definitely a great morning to chill with a cup of coffee and enjoy the sound of the rain… from inside. 😎☕

🚨 MORRIS COUNTY ALERT: FLASH FLOOD WARNING

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning until 10:00 AM this morning.

Heavy rain and repeated downpours may result in rapid flooding of roads, low-lying areas, and other flood-prone locations.

A few Sunday-morning reminders:

🌧️ Give yourself some extra time if you’re heading out.
🚗 Never drive through a flooded roadway.
⚠️ Be especially cautious around low-lying roads, streams, and areas that typically flood.
☕ And if you don’t have anywhere you need to be… that second cup of coffee is looking like a pretty solid emergency management strategy.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on conditions throughout the morning and provide updates if needed.

🌧️ WELL, MORRIS COUNTY… IT’S BEEN A LITTLE WHILE!

We haven’t bothered you with a weather post lately, so why not check in with you today. 😎

The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WATCH for Morris County, in effect from 12:00 AM through 12:00 PM Sunday, September 13.

⛈️ WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

After a pretty nice September Saturday, things change late tonight as showers and thunderstorms become more widespread. The primary concern is heavy, repetitive downpours, particularly during the overnight and Sunday morning hours.

⏰ Greatest concern: Approximately 3:00 AM – 11:00 AM Sunday

Some of the stronger downpours may produce 1–2 inches of rain in a relatively short period of time, with locally higher amounts possible. This could result in:

💧 Poor-drainage and low-lying area flooding
🌊 Rising streams and creeks
🚧 Water-covered roadways
⛈️ Periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms

And because we know Morris County pretty well… if that road always floods, Sunday morning probably isn’t the day to test whether anything has changed. 😉

We’ll continue monitoring the weather and provide updates if conditions warrant.

⛈️ WEATHER UPDATE | MORRIS COUNTY

Ongoing thunderstorms in and around the Dover, Wharton and Rockaway areas are producing torrential rainfall rates.

🌧️ With a quick 1–2 inches of rainfall possible, watch for pockets of poor drainage and localized flooding, especially in the usual trouble spots.

💨 A few localized wind gusts of up to 40 mph can’t be ruled out either.

Storm activity will continue tracking south, with the primary risk continuing through approximately 7:40 PM.

⛈️ SO… WHO DOESN’T LIKE AN UPDATE?

Apparently, Mother Nature wasn’t finished with us just yet. 🌩️

A strong storm to our northwest is expected to arrive within the next 10–15 minutes and is capable of producing:

💨 Wind gusts of 40–55 mph
🧊 Locally small hail
🌧️ Heavy rainfall, which could lead to poor-drainage flooding

The activity will continue tracking southeast, with the greatest risk through approximately 7:15 PM.

⛈️ SORRY TO INTERRUPT DINNER… BUT MOTHER NATURE HAS OTHER PLANS.

We just heard from our weather team, and while this won’t impact everyone, here’s what we’re watching:

📍 North of I-80: A storm along the Morris/Passaic County border is strengthening.

⚠️ Potential impacts include:
• Wind gusts of 40–55 mph
• Small hail
• Heavy downpours
• Possible poor-drainage flooding

The storm is tracking southeast, with the greatest risk through approximately 6:40–6:55 PM.

FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR MORRIS COUNTY 🌧️
Noon today through late tonight — Thursday, August 27

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Morris County as showers and thunderstorms capable of producing torrential rainfall move through the region today.

While periods of lighter or more scattered activity are possible this morning into early afternoon, the greatest concern is later this afternoon and evening, when more widespread downpours are expected.

⚠️ WHAT TO EXPECT:

● Repeated heavy downpours may result in poor drainage, roadway, stream and creek flooding
● Localized rainfall amounts of 3 inches or more are possible, with the strongest storms potentially producing considerably higher totals
● Rainfall rates could reach 1–3 inches per hour in torrential downpours
● Flooding could impact the evening commute
● Some thunderstorms may become locally strong with gusty winds
● There is also a low risk of an isolated tornado this afternoon into the evening

🚗 PLEASE USE CAUTION: Never drive through a flooded roadway. Water depth and roadway conditions can be difficult to determine, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

Conditions are expected to improve later tonight. Friday should be mainly dry, followed by pleasant and mostly sunny weather for the weekend.

⚠️ WEATHER ALERT – FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT ⚠️
The Morris County Office of Emergency Management continues to monitor the potential for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and localized flooding this afternoon and evening, Thursday, August 20.
The National Weather Service has a Flood Watch in effect for Morris County through late tonight.

🌧️ Timing: The greatest concern for heavy downpours is approximately 4:30 PM – 10:30 PM, with the most significant impacts currently anticipated between 5:30 PM and 9:30 PM.

🌧️ Rainfall: Widespread rainfall totals of 1–2 inches are possible, with localized areas potentially receiving 3–5 inches where repeated heavy downpours occur. Rainfall rates in the strongest storms could reach 1–3 inches per hour.

⚠️ Primary Concerns:
• Rapid roadway and poor-drainage flooding
• Rising streams and creeks
• Flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas
• Difficult travel conditions during the evening commute
• Scattered lightning
• Isolated strong to locally damaging wind gusts
Because thunderstorms may produce very heavy rainfall over a relatively short period of time, conditions can deteriorate quickly, particularly in locations that traditionally experience drainage or roadway flooding.

🚗 Please use extra caution during the evening commute. Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway.
Residents should continue to monitor trusted weather sources ( like us) and be prepared to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued.

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor conditions throughout the afternoon and evening and provide updates as is necessary.
