Please Plan to Attend
· The Village of Seneca has scheduled a Public Information Meeting regarding the proposed petro chemical barge terminal at Seneca
· When – December 16, 2024 – The meeting will begin at 5:30 PM
· Where – This meeting will be held at the Seneca Village Hall
General Information
Illinois Michigan Oil (IMO) procured US Army Corp of Engineers and Illinois Department of Natural Resources approval to develop a 106 barge petro chemical terminal at Seneca downriver of the railroad bridge. These approvals were granted without either agency allowing a public meeting regarding the proposal. The proposed operation would span up to four barges wide for more than one mile. The proposed operation is believed to include a petrochemical barge cleaning operation.
· The proposed facility is in an area zoned Waterfront Development by The Village of Seneca. This zoning along with the Village of Seneca 30 year comprehensive plan prohibits barge terminal operations within this zoning.
· The Village of Seneca has refused to amend its ordinances to accommodate IMO.
· In early 2024, IMO proceeded to install five (5) steel mooring pilings in the left descending side of the Illinois River without a Village permit.
· On December 16, 2024 IMO will be presenting a Public Information Meeting with a stated intent to explain their plan for this proposed petro chemical barge terminal. They will be available to answer questions and concerns.
· Mayor Olson and council members will be present to listen to the presentation and answer questions as they arise.
· Mayor Olson has respectfully requested that all attendees act cordially, recommending we identify spokespersons to present the public’s concerns. He also stated that anyone in attendance is welcome to ask questions they may have.
· Rick Sims, Dave Kiehl and Doug Gladden will be meeting to review your comments and identify spokespersons.
· Please email your comments to one of the following by December 1, 2024:
· Rick Sims [email protected]
· Dave Kiehl [email protected]
· Doug Gladden [email protected]
Your comments opposing all of this proposed barge terminal and Your Attendance at the meeting on December 16 is paramount in preventing this potential decay to our community and our beautiful river!!

10/07/2022

In this week’s Morris Herald-News, a Notice to Grundy County Taxpayers Assessed Values for 2022 was published. Erienna and Nettle Creek Townships are being subjected to a 15.5% increase to the equalized assessed value (EAV) of Residential, Commercial and Farms. (The assessed value should be set at 33.3% of the fair cash value of the property.)
THE EAV INCREASE IS DETERMINED AT A STATE LEVEL. This adjustment compares the sales history to the assessed valuation over the past 3 years. What this boils down to is that houses have been selling much higher than the assessed value.
The newspaper outlines the appeals process if you disagree with your property assessment. Appeals are generally based on 2 categories; either sales or equity. The first step is to contact the Township Assessor’s Office. Erienna Township Assessor is Corrine Erickson @ [email protected] or 815-513-3990 (she would prefer to utilize e-mail). The next step would be to contact Deborah Ritke, Supervisor of Assessments at 815-941-3269 or [email protected].
