Lost one of the best!
It is with sad and heavy heart to report the passing of Deputy Jeff Greenwell. Jeff dedicated nearly 20 years to residents of Sanpete County as a Sheriff’s Deputy. There is no doubt in that time Jeff contributed to saving numerous lives including citizens of the county and his fellow law enforcement officers.
Jeff served in the role of Patrol Deputy, Probation Officer, Field Training Officer, and numerous Instructor roles. Throughout his Patrol career Jeff saw every type of case from simple public assistant to homicide investigations. Jeff was instrumental in teaching and mentoring new Law Enforcement Officers through field training and beyond. Jeff was an expert fi****ms instructor and taught many other disciplines including many less lethal tools.
Jeff built the Sanpete County Probation Program from the ground up. This program became the model program throughout Utah and the Nation. Jeff had a unique way of tough supervision with compassion and empathy. This combination led many people to battle through their addictions, change their criminal behavior, and make meaningful life changes. Through his efforts recidivism throughout the county dropped dramatically. Jeff served with courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Sanpete County. He stood as a protector, a neighbor, and a friend. His service was not measured only in years, but in the countless lives he touched. While we grieve his loss, we also celebrate a life of purpose and sacrifice. His legacy will live on in the safety he brought to our streets, the trust he built with our community, and the example he set for all who follow in his footsteps.
Jeff’s presence will always be felt in the halls of the Sheriff’s Office; he will be greatly missed.
