Engine 827 ran second due to Kipling Pkwy yesterday after E823 arrived on scene and filled the box for the shed fire extending to the house. E827 picked up the water supply for the first due engine and stretched/operated a backup attack line. The crew operated on scene for approximately one hour before returning to the firehouse. The new KME Severe Service wagon running as Engine 827 has seen regular fire duty after being placed in service at the Suitland Rd firehouse just over one month ago.

At approximately 1430 hours on 05/27/2026, units from the 5th and 3rd Battalions were alerted to the 5900 block of Fisher Rd in Temple Hills for apartment fire. Communications received several calls prompting the call for a Working Fire Dispatch. Engine 821 arrived to find fire showing from Side Alpha of a three story garden apartment and Rescue Squad 827 arriving after as the search company. Primary and secondary searches were completed as engine companies extinguished the fire, which were negative. RS827 returned to service shortly after.

This , the MVFD commends the crew of A827B for their actions on a recent medical call in the 3800 block of Regency Parkway.

The crew rapidly identified initial symptoms of respiratory distress including tripoding and wheezing in an asthmatic patient and provided lifesaving interventions to stabilize the patient and prevent respiratory arrest. The crew’s actions included an early request for ALS resources, 2 doses of nebulized albuterol and ultimately, IM epinephrine per Maryland BLS protocols. Outstanding assessment, teamwork, and patient care.

In honor of the MVFD is proud to highlight FF/Paramedic Luther Youmbi (pictured, left).

Luther is currently working through Prince George’s County’s intensive ALS internship. Read on to hear what he has to say about being a paramedic.

“I’ve enjoyed everything so far about being a paramedic. I still remember in EMT school reading through the book and counting how many times it would suggest “call for ALS” anytime the scope of an EMT wouldn’t suffice. And I can remember wondering what made these ALS people so special. It’s amazing to think that in a short span of time I’ve not only learned what ALS providers add to the prehospital setting, but I am now an ALS provider myself and I have the very beautiful and humbling honor of caring for people at some of the highest levels the world has ever seen. How could anyone not love it? Even if it does carry a bit of a price tag.”

Thank you Luther for your contributions to 27 and happy EMS Week to all of our amazing providers at the MVFD.

Shortly after 1900 hours on Friday, May 1st, the Box Alarm assignment was dispatched on Box 27-10 for a garage on fire in the 6000-blk of Griffith Drive. E827 arrived first, secured their own water supply, and stretched on a detached garage with fire showing to quickly knock all visible fire. Co. 27 members operated for approximately 2 hours before returning to quarters. This marked the first working fire for our KME wagon since going in service as the new E827.

Ten years ago today, on April 15th, 2016, our Morningside volunteers and the Prince George’s County Fire Department were dispatched to a call that we will never forget. Rescue Engine 827 and Paramedic Ambulance 823 responded on a “routine” call for a welfare check that changed the course of the history of the Prince George’s County Fire Department. We will always remember Lt. John E. “Skillet” Ulmschneider’s sacrifice. Morningside FF/EMT Kevin Swain recovered from his injuries received that day and is now a Firefighter/Paramedic with Annapolis City Fire Department. We will continue to remember the sacrifices the crews made that day, and the friends and families of those affected that fateful day.
