The River Road Volunteer Fire Department proudly recognizes June as PTSD Awareness Month and stands in support of all individuals and families affected by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

PTSD can affect anyone. It may impact military veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, 911 dispatchers, healthcare workers, survivors of accidents, abuse, violence, natural disasters, and countless others who have experienced traumatic events.

Many people carry invisible scars that others may never see. PTSD is not a sign of weakness—it is a normal response to abnormal and often life-changing experiences. Recovery is possible, and no one should feel ashamed to seek help.

This month, we encourage everyone to:
💙 Learn about PTSD and its effects
💙 Check in on friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors
💙 Support those who may be struggling
💙 Promote mental health awareness and available resources
💙 Help break the stigma surrounding mental health challenges

To anyone living with PTSD: You are not alone. Your story matters. Your life matters. There is hope, there is help, and there are people who care.

Together, we can build stronger communities through understanding, compassion, and support.

It is with heavy hearts that the members of River Road Volunteer Fire Department announce the passing of one of our own, Dave Zinn.

For 43½ years, he answered the call to serve his community with unwavering dedication, selflessness, and pride. Throughout those decades, he stood shoulder to shoulder with generations of firefighters, always willing to lend a hand, share his knowledge, and put others before himself.

From 2006 to 2014, he proudly served as Chief of the River Road VFD, leading our department through countless emergencies and challenges. His leadership, commitment, and vision helped shape the department we know today. He was not only a chief, but also a mentor, a teacher, a friend, and a brother to many.

His legacy cannot be measured by years of service alone, but by the lives he touched, the firefighters he guided, and the community he helped protect. The lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the example he set will continue to live on in every member at River Road.

Today, we mourn the loss of a firefighter, a leader, and a cherished member of our River Road family. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The members of the River Road Volunteer Fire Department pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

This Memorial Day, we reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy every day. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and their legacy lives on through the communities, families, and country they fought to protect.

As we gather with family and friends this weekend, let us also take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day — honoring our fallen heroes.

From all of us at the River Road Volunteer Fire Department, we extend our deepest gratitude to our nation’s fallen service members and their families.

“We don’t know them all, but we owe them all.” 🇺🇸
