If you build it, they will come...

West Virginia's Garden is getting a major upgrade! Phase 1 of the WV Botanic Garden's Central Gardens Master Plan is well underway.

This first phase includes stone terracing and retaining walls, a paver walkway, a framed gazebo lawn, and a stream channel. While we continue building our horticultural staff capacity, much of this area will be seeded with a native pollinator mix and maintained as a meadow. For now, we're creating the canvas that future WVBG plant-artists will bring to life with new garden designs and plant collections.

The Central Gardens Master Plan is a long-term vision that will eventually include an expanded parking area with sustainability features, an entrance plaza, accessible pathways, new restrooms, and beautifully defined garden spaces that welcome and inspire visitors for generations to come.

Projects like this don't happen overnight. They are made possible by artful designers, talented contractors, dedicated volunteers, visionary supporters, and years of fundraising persistence. Thank you to everyone helping shape the future of West Virginia's Garden.

When it rains, it pours!

If it's not one thing, it's another. Earlier this week, the internet to our offices was accidentally cut, which means our main phone lines are out. Then today, our water supply busted underneath our entrance road, which means all water in the Garden is shut off until repairs can be made. This affects everything from rentals, nature camps, concerts, and even the cafe.

Tonight's Summer Concert with Chris Felton and Michelle Fincham is postponed until July 2nd. All weekend programs are cancelled. The cafe will be closed this weekend. As of now, next week's summer camp will continue as planned — we are working quickly to get portable toilets delivered.

This might be a bad hit for the WVBG, but we know we have your support and we'll get through this speed bump together. There's nothing like a summer concert in the Garden!

Last year, WVBG supporters Chris Felton and Michelle Fincham performed at the cafe for a few hours. Everyone there was magnetized by their beautiful harmony and smooth flow. Two hours felt like ten minutes. We knew they would be a great fit for the 2026 Summer Concert Series and we think you'll agree. Their performance is all set for Thursday night, June 11.

Tickets are available now at wvbg.org in advance or you can pay at the show. $5 for WVBG Members/$10 General Admission. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and spend the evening among new friends and songs that will even have the birds tapping their feet.

Where have you bean all my life?

Coffee beans might not be native to Appalachia, but we aren't ALWAYS snobs about native plants. Your new emotional support beverage just arrived — a special blend including Ethiopian arabica beans.

Your WVBG team rallied together to select a blend of roasts by our coffee genius friends at Sabo Coffee Roasters in Morgantown, taking the same meticulous and scientific approach to our selection that we demand of every new asset at your Garden. It involved lots of notes, control groups, and math.

Wake Robin is another name for native red trillium; originating because of its bloom arrival coinciding with the arrival of migratory robins. The same spirit of renewal which can be found in every cup. It is available now in the WVBG Visitors Center Gift Shop. Want to try it before you buy it? Hill & Hollow at the Garden serves it up fresh for you to order at the cafe every Thursday through Sunday from 10-4.

Our team admittedly has a few coffee snobs. We're tellin' you, this is a solid blend that you will love. Adulting is hard, let us help.

Meow-mazing memories from the Gabby's Dollhouse Fairylandia Tour at the West Virginia Botanic Garden!

Over two magical days, the Garden was filled with imagination and SO many smiling faces. Seeing children explore, create, dance, and fully believe in the magic around them was the best part of all. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this paws-itively unforgettable adventure in Fairylandia!

Some of the sweetest moments in the Garden aren’t planned—they’re quietly unfolding all around us.

A mother carrying her child beneath watchful wings… a robin settled gently on her nest… and a brilliant clutch of five blue eggs, full of promise. This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the many forms care can take—tender, patient, and deeply rooted in love.

Wishing a beautiful Mother’s Day to all who nurture, in every sense of the word.

Garden Closed Friday and Saturday?

Yeah, we're super sorry if this is an inconvenience. Truly. However, we have thousands of visitors coming from across the Mid-Atlantic for Fairylandia Tour and as you know, parking can be a challenge even on a normal busy weekend. We need to close general admission to the WVBG until 5 p.m. both Friday and Saturday (May 8-9) so that families coming to see Gabby are able to park their cars.

Our national partners in this endeavor and have graciously brought Gabby to West Virginia to inspire children to appreciate nature and gardens. We hope you understand and can rearrange your visit plans to come after 5 p.m.
