April is autism awareness month.

The Morgantown Fire Department is proud to stand with families and individuals affected by autism spectrum disorder.

Autism Spectrum Disorder affects how individuals communicate, interact, and experience the world. For first responders, awareness is critical every call is different, and recognizing the needs of individuals with autism helps us provide safer, more effective care.

We encourage everyone to take this time to learn more, practice patience, and show compassion.

WILDLAND FIRE

Today, the Morgantown Fire Department, along with several assisting agencies, responded to a large wildland fire in Butler County that burned more than 100 acres.

When crews arrived, the fire was spreading quickly due to dry vegetation and current weather conditions. A coordinated response was put in place involving more than 20 fire departments, along with assistance from the Kentucky Division of Forestry, to contain the fire and protect nearby homes and property.

At this time, the fire is contained. Crews will remain on scene overnight to monitor for hot spots, reinforce containment lines, and prevent any flare-ups.

There have been no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

We appreciate the efforts of all responding agencies and personnel who worked together to bring this fire under control.

The public is asked to avoid the area so crews can continue working safely, and to use caution with any outdoor burning given the current dry conditions.

Our dispatchers, firefighters, and rescue personnel are actively responding to calls and monitoring conditions across the county. During severe weather events, call volumes can increase significantly, so we ask for your patience as crews work to respond safely and efficiently.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as our first responders continue working to keep the community safe. If you must travel, please use caution and remain weather aware.

Thank you for supporting your local emergency services.

YOU CAN PREVENT WILDFIRES.

With dry conditions and changing winds, wildfire risk is elevated in our area.

Please avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of ci******es, and never leave campfires unattended. Keep burn piles small and have a water source or hose nearby. Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass, as hot exhaust systems can ignite vegetation.

Clear leaves and debris away from your home, especially around decks and outbuildings. A small spark can quickly turn into a large wildfire.

If you see smoke or an unattended fire, contact Butler County Dispatch immediately.

Let’s work together to keep Morgantown safe.
