MC Draft

MC Draft Mother's Cupboard Community Kitchen was started in 1999 by an ad hoc group of individuals in order to combat food insecurity in Brown County.

From the beginning the mission was a free hot meal to anyone, with no questions asked. That mission continues today. Located in Bean Blossom, Indiana, Mother’s Cupboard is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Day to day operations are directed by a paid kitchen manager, who plans and acquires supplies for the prepared meal each day. Volunteers prepare and serve the food, averaging approxima

tely 100+ meals per day. Total expenses for 2009 approached $72,000.00. Income sources include, Brown County Community Foundation endowments, the Soup Bowl Benefit, caring individuals, faith based organizations, and philanthropic civic groups. Mother’s Cupboard provides quality food to needy individuals through three programs:
Prepared meals are served once a day, 364 days a year to anyone who asks for food, without qualifications. Canned food is distributed to anyone who asks for it. This food is collected by community in-kind donations and food drives. TEFAP (USDA commodity program) distribution site for those who qualify pursuant to TEFAP guidelines.
