On June 1st, the Brookhaven Fire Department was honored to assist FCC Hazelton with their annual memorial service, wherein Tower 12 was requested to raise our nation’s colors above the complex entrance while Hazelton employees paid tribute to the memories of those lost over the years.

On May 10th 2026 at approximately 1:30pm Brookhaven fire department was alerted for a possible cardiac arrest at 1027 AARONS CREEK RD, MORGANTOWN, WV. Squad 125 responded with 4 personnel, Mon County sheriff’s officers arrived to find a male very argumentative with officers and one dog with blood on it. Sheriff’s officers advised all units to back out and stage. Squad 125 shut down the road while officers attempted to negotiate with the subject.

After over a 4 hour standoff with WV State Police and Mon County Sheriff deputies, the subject then started a fire in the attached garage of the residence. At that time Assistant Chief Zach Lipscomb dispatched for a full box response for a structure fire. Engine 123, engine 122 and tower 12 responded with additional personnel along with units from Cool Springs, Clinton District, Cheat Lake and a tanker for Granville. All units were staged at a safe distance due to the subject armed with a firearm and still barricaded inside the residence. Thermal imaging equipment was used from a safe distance along side officers to determine the location of the fire and the temperature in the garage.

The fire rapidly ignited and increased in the attached garage. An 1 3/4” crosslay was deployed from engine 123. Assistant Chief Z. Lipscomb and Deputy Chief A. Lipscomb were escorted by state police and sheriff deputies to the alpha/ delta corner behind a vehicle to attempt to fight the fire. A second crosslay was deployed to assist in attempting to control the rapidly advancing fire. 3 officers were placed in scba breathing apparatus incase they had to make entry to apprehended the subject. Cool springs secured a near by hydrant and supplied engine 123 with ldh supply line.

The attached house eves started pushing dark smoke out and crews noticed the fire starting to advance toward the house. Units on the hand-lines were advised to take cover as the subject walked out the front door of the house towards officers. Officer safety apprehended the subject and gave the all clear to units to move in to the scene.

Once cleared to attack the fire crews began fighting the attached garage. While deputy chief A. Lipscomb and assist chief Z. Lipscomb entered the house. As they entered the house they were met by a dog that had been shot in the neck and was bleeding from the wound. Once the dog was secured crews began an aggressive attack on the fire in the rear bedroom and hall way of the residence. Interior crews was able to contain the fire to the garage and rear bedroom of the house the rest of the house contained smoke damage. Tower 12 was set up to and began aerial operations on the garage. Crews remained on scene for approximately additional 3 hours performing overhaul operations.

Chief Jimmy Lipscomb held over fire command of the scene apon arrival. No injuries were reported to Fire personnel or area police officers. We pray the dog will make a full recovery.

May our heartfelt condolences bring comfort to our member Tim Russell and his family during this sorrowful moment, as they lovingly remember his mother who peacefully went home this morning. On April 14th at approximately 12:50 a.m., the Brookhaven Fire Department responded to a mutual aid fire with Cheat Lake VFD at Lakeside Vlg, Morgantown , WV. Units responding included Tower 12, Engine 123, and Squad 125. The 911 center received multiple calls reporting a working fire in a row of townhouses.

Upon arrival, Tower 12 confirmed a working fire in four apartments and established operations on the alpha side. Engine 123 established a water supply line into Tower 12. Tower 12 conducted aerial operations and deployed two 1 3/4” crosslays.

Mon EMS treated a patient with possible burns; the patient's condition is currently unknown.

Tankers from Cool Springs, Clinton District, Triune Halleck, and Granville supported water supply operations via shuttles from nearby hydrants.

The state fire marshal's office was notified to conduct an investigation
