Today, we celebrate the life of Gloria Steinem, the feminist icon who pushed for social change, helped jumpstart r**e crisis centers and domestic violence shelters, and co-founded the first women-run publication, Ms. Magazine, which continues to lead the most important conversations concerning the rights of women.

Our movement is better thanks to her influence, strength, and bravery—and we will continue to be guided by her wisdom moving forward.

Rest in power, Gloria.

Gloria Steinem, the indefatigable feminist and journalist whose activism revolutionized the personal and professional lives of women, has died. She was 92.

Steinem “passed away peacefully at her home in New York City, surrounded by some of the many who loved her,” a post on her official Instagram page said Thursday. It added that she had died on Wednesday.

“Gloria’s near-century on earth were years well-lived, and she continued working for equality until the very end,” the post said. It did not say how she died.

A pioneer of the 1960s’ era of second-wave feminism, Steinem dedicated her life to causes ranging from reproductive freedom and domestic violence prevention to workplace gender inequalities.

On Friday, August 7, 2026, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into a reported s*x offense involving a child. At the conclusion of the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Cody Warren Myers, charging him with three counts of Felony Statutory S*x Offense with a Child Under 15 and seven counts of Felony Statutory R**e of a Child Under 15.

On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Myers was taken into custody and transported to the Burke County Magistrate’s Office, where he was served with the outstanding warrants. Myers was denied bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 13, 2026.
