State officials have shared new information about potential rabies exposure linked to baby goats at a mobile petting zoo in Iredell County.

The goats were likely exposed in late July and may have been infectious at multiple public and private events through Aug 27. Anyone who had direct contact with these animals should call their local health department to learn whether preventive care is needed. Rabies is rare but serious, and early guidance can help protect your health while the investigation continues.

Small bite. Big impact. 🦟🌍

On World Mosquito Day, we raise awareness about mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and West Nile virus, which continue to affect millions of people worldwide. Prevention starts with simple actions—eliminate standing water, use insect repellent, wear protective clothing, and keep your surroundings clean. Together, we can reduce the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses and protect healthier communities.
