As we look ahead to a new chapter, we'd like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Alan Wood as he concludes his service this month on the Burke County United Way Board of Directors and begins a well-earned retirement.

Alan's leadership has been instrumental in helping our organization navigate and grow in the years following COVID-19. As Board President, he brought a steady hand, thoughtful perspective, and collaborative spirit to every challenge and opportunity. Whether helping guide important decisions or rolling up his sleeves at a volunteer event, Alan consistently led by example with kindness, humility, and dedication to our community.

We are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and wisdom he has shared with Burke County United Way and wish him all the best in retirement.

We would also like to thank Cindy Davies for her outstanding service as Board President. Cindy has been a tremendous leader, advocate, and partner to our organization, and we are grateful that she will continue serving on our board in the role of Past President. Her enthusiasm, commitment, and heart for our community continue to make a lasting impact.

Please join us in thanking Alan and Cindy for their leadership and service to Burke County.

πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’š Today, we honor Juneteenth – a pivotal moment in American history that marks the day when news of freedom finally reached the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865.

Freedom isn't truly freedom until it reaches everyone. Juneteenth reminds us that progress requires both proclamation and practice, laws and lived reality.

Today, we remember and honor the brave people who have given their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we pause in gratitude for those who made that freedom possible.
