Hello, citizens of Morganton and Burke County!
We the defenders of the Morganton Confederate Memorial and the local Sons of Confederate Veterans have been very busy these past few months, and we'd love to share what we have been up to in addition to preserveing our stoic defender downtown.

Recently we have completed our most ambitious headstone restoration campaign ever, and we have completed our last round of cemetery headstone installations, including a headstone for an original Burke Tiger, a veteran of the 16th North Carolina infantry.

The majority of these replacement stones are for ones that have become un-readable due to erosion, but in several cases these stones are to mark graves that had been lost to time. Which is a another important reason for our monument to remain, since for many a soldier it is the only marker they have.

Furthermore, the Burke Tigers have successfully cleaned the historic Hildebrand family cemetery, raised a new battle flag at exit 119, and today participated in the Morganton tractor show, which was held this year, due to hurricane Helane at the Caldwell County fairgrounds.

Thank you to everyone in the community that has supported us, and we hope to see you at some of our upcoming events. God bless you all, and God bless our Confederate Veterans.

With all the cold weather we've been having lately, it seemed appropriate to take a little trip down memory lane. This photo was taken by a local photographer, Ms. Lala Buchanan, we believe.

Who else remembers when it used to snow and really stick, and back when our soldier had the shade of a nearby magnolia tree?

Hello Everyone,
It’s been a bit, but we are still here. As the Christmas Season comes around we are all so grateful to everyone here who has liked, shared, and supported this page. Every interaction you have made, and every follower has made it grow larger and larger, and has helped us preserve our stoic defender in Downtown Morganton.

As we march into the new year, we intend to keep you aware of what we are doing locally and what you can do also, to help preserve our sacred tribute to our honored dead.

God Bless you, God Bless our Confederate Soldiers, and God grant you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Photos from two of this year's Christmas Parades in Burke County, where local Sons of Confederate Veterans members, many of who are local caretakers and cleaners of the Morganton Confederate Memorial, proudly represented our Bronze defender in Morganton and the many names inscribed on the tablets he guards.

Good morning, y’all.

The second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, July 2, 1863, was a turning point in the American Civil War. Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia launched a massive assault on the Union Army of the Potomac, led by General George Meade. The Confederates attacked the Union positions on Cemetery Ridge, but were repelled with heavy losses. The Union lines held, despite intense fighting at locations like Little Round Top, Devil's Den, and the Wheatfield. By the end of the day, the Confederates had gained some ground, but at a great cost in lives lost. The stage was set for the climactic third day of the battle.

Happy Monday, y’all.
