🌀 Tropical Storm Bertha Update

Tropical Storm Bertha is expected to move west along the Upper Texas Coast today and move inland later this afternoon or evening. Significant impacts are not expected for La Porte, but we encourage everyone to continue monitoring weather conditions.

🌧️ Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible, mainly along and south of I-10

💨 Gusty winds are possible, especially near the coast

🌊 Tides may run 1–2 feet above normal, with minor coastal flooding possible in vulnerable areas

☔ Overall rainfall amounts are expected to remain relatively low

Last night was also a good reminder of how quickly weather conditions can change. A strong thunderstorm moved through the east side of La Porte, resulting in damaged and downed trees, downed power lines, and scattered debris.

Even when widespread severe weather is not expected, a single strong thunderstorm can still create localized impacts.

The La Porte EOC will continue monitoring Bertha and other weather conditions throughout the day. Stay weather aware and be prepared to take action if conditions change.

5th Annual Fill the Bus is in a few days! Be sure to grab some school supplies benefitting La Porte ISD students the next time you're out and about and drop them off at Kroger (located at Hwy 146 at Fairmont Pkwy) to help us fill the bus! 🚌

There is also a donation box here at the chamber office (100 W Main St) if you'd like to drop off school supplies beforehand!

🚴‍♀️🚴 TRAFFIC ALERT: LA PORTE TRIATHLON - JUNE 7TH

This is a reminder the City of La Porte is hosting their annual triathlon this Sunday, June 7th. There are significant roadway closures from approximately 7:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. which will encompass the same routes as in previous years.

Alternate routes in and out of our city would include East Main Street and Barbour’s Cut Blvd. Officers will be stationed at the Broadway intersections to assist with traffic control.

La Porte officers will be located at Bayridge Road/Park Drive, and just past the S curve to assist residents with entry and exit from their driveways. All other traffic will be diverted. Please follow the officer’s instructions and expect delays.

All roads will reopen no later than 11:30 a.m.
