Morgan's Point Resort and the surrounding areas are under a flash flood warning until 12:15 am Wednesday, May 27th. Heavy rains that have fallen and those that are still forecast over the next few hours have set the conditions for flash flooding. Please use extra caution if traveling as flooding is more difficult to see at night. It doesn't take much moving water to sweep a car off the roadway.

It's a nice day to exercise Marine 61. Some maneuvering drills and putting the pump through its paces while getting ready to hopefully not be called on this summer.

Now imagine the look on my face when I could not locate my phone on board, and the find device on my watch simple says "Lake Belton." Is that near, on, or under? It was located safely 🥸

If you are venturing to the lake today or any day this summer....please be careful. Have fun and enjoy....but be safe doing it.

On Tuesday, May 19th at approximately 9:14 pm, Morgan's Point Resort Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential structure fire on Leeward Dr. The caller indicated they smelled smoke shortly after an extremely close lightning strike. Initial MPR units arrived on scene in about 4 1/2 minutes and observed smoke in the interior of the home and coming from the attic area. MPR Engine 62 arrived on scene and firefighters made entry to the attic space through the garage and were able to locate the source. The smoldering fire was quickly extinguished limiting it to the attic area. The fire appears to have been caused by a lightning strike to the chimney that traveled through the walls and exited in multiple spots, igniting the framing and insulation.

Morgan's Point Resort Fire Rescue would like to thank the rapid response from the Moffatt Volunteer Fire Department, Temple Fire Department, Belton EMS and the MPRPD for their assistance.

Units responding were MPR 601, 602, 603, Squad 61 and Engine 62, MPRPD, Moffatt Engine 11 and 12, Temple Engine 7 and Belton Medic 2.

There is more to it than just showing up and putting water on the fire. Understanding is key to everything in life, to include the way fire lives and breathes. Reading what the smoke is telling you and knowing how flow patterns work cannot only tell firefighters where the fire is, but what state it currently is in.

This sort of training also helps show the importance of closing doors and windows. It's not just a dollhouse....it's a training aid.
