How you can help keep Morgan Hill clean!

Individual citizens in our community can help make our waterways cleaner just by picking up dog waste. Help your pooch not pollute – scoop it, bag it, and toss it! Throwing away your dog's waste will improve the health of our environment, as well as keep those safe who enjoy swimming, wading, and playing in water.

If you see a spill on the pavement or entering a storm drain in Morgan
Hill, Gilroy, or Unincorporated Santa Clara County, call the pollution
hotline immediately to report the spill.
• Morgan Hill: 408–776–7333
• Gilroy: 408–846–0424
• Unincorporated Santa Clara County: 408–918–4609
Please call Valley Water’s 24/7 hotline if you see anything directly
polluting a creek, pond, or reservoir: 888–510–5151.
If you see discharge or a spill that could be an immediate threat to
human or environmental health, please call 911.

It's Spring Cleaning Season!
Do you know what the common household hazardous materials are?
Household hazardous waste (HHW) can include:
Batteries
Cleaning Supplies
Automotive Fluids
Aerosols
Pesticides/Herbicide/Fertilizer

Ways you can be part of the solution to water pollution
- Properly dispose of your trash
- Dispose of pet waste in the garbage. Do not flush pet waste down the toilet.
- Do not dump anything down the storm drain. Only clean rain down the storm drain.
- Do not flush medications down the toilet or wash down the sink.
- Minimize the use of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. Use a natural alternative.
- instead of washing your car at home, take it to the car wash. Commercial car washes are required to treat their water.
- Clean up spilled fluids with an abosrbent material instead of hosing them away

You can also help protect our waterways, by participating in cleanup events or even starting your own self-guided neighborhood cleanup!

Dirt Can Hurt!
Learn how sediment run off can be harmful:
1. Sediment in waterways can block sunlight and negatively affect the growth of aquatic plants
2. Sediment can clog fish gills and reduce visibility in the water, making it difficult for fish to find food
3. Sediment carries pollutants, such as heavy metals, oils, and excess nutrients; which harms aquatic life
4. When sediment builds up in storm drains, it hinders the flow of water and can increase chances of flooding
Remember: Only Clean Rain Down the Storm Drain!

Happy Drinking Water Week!🚰

Our drinking water is sourced locally from the Coyote and Llagas underground aquifers! 🫗 The water is treated at the well before it's sent to our residents. The City actively monitors all groundwater wells to ensure water quality meets or exceeds all EPA and State health and safety standards. 🔬

Groundwater is limited! It takes about 18 months for surface water to move into our groundwater sources.💧 Help us protect our drinking water by limiting fertilizer/pesticide use, picking up after your pet, and ensuring septic systems are maintained properly. Use water only when you need it.

There's lots more to learn about drinking water. 🚰 For more information, view our consumer confidence report at https://ow.ly/B8Fn50YV82M
