🚨PSA: Mayyan Ooyakma Coyote Ridge is closed this weekend due to natural resource protection work 🌿

A herd of cows have "mooved" in to the gateway of the preserve to munch away at the tall grasses and reduce what would soon become fire fuel. 🐄🌾

Due to the steepness of the terrain, this work cannot be safely (or quickly) done by hand.

Flash grazing is only used for brief periods of time and keeping the grass down helps make way for beautiful wildflowers to bloom for our spring visitors. 🌸 Without wildflowers, the threatened Bay checkerspot butterflies that live at the preserve wouldn't have the nectar they need to survive the upcoming breeding season. 🦋

The preserve will reopen on Wednesday, March 5.

To protect the extremely sensitive habitat at Máyyan ‘Ooyákma - Coyote Ridge, the Habitat Protection Area (Serpentine Spring Trail, Tule Elk Trail, Bay Checkerspot Trail) is currently CLOSED due to rain/mud until further notice.

Máyyan ‘Ooyákma - Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve opens to the public on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

To protect this landscape's sensitive habitat, a free, annual BUTTERFLY PASS is required year-round to access the trails inside the Habitat Protection Area.
