The Sewer and Water Department plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and well-being of our community. We are responsible for the delivery of clean drinking water, the safe disposal and treatment of wastewater, and the ongoing maintenance of pumping stations, and associated infrastructure. Our team works diligently to ensure regulatory compliance, respond to emergencies, and pursue innovative solutions that enhance service efficiency and environmental stewardship.
Position Overview
Job Title: Helper – Sewer and Water Department
Employment Type: Full-time Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: 1073 Tower Tank Road, Morgan City, LA (Stephensville)
Salary Range: D.O.E.
Reports To: Department Supervisor or Crew Leader

Key Responsibilities
• Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water mains, sewer lines, pumps, valves, and other essential infrastructure.
• Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Help conduct routine inspections of water and sewer systems to identify leaks, blockages, or other issues.
• Assist in responding to emergency calls, such as water line breaks or sewer backups.
• Perform general labor tasks such as digging, lifting, carrying materials, and cleaning work areas.
• Observe and adhere to all safety protocols and departmental policies.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
• Interact courteously with the public and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
• Participate in training sessions to develop knowledge and skills relevant to the department.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED (Preferred but not necessary)
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
• Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and work in various weather conditions.
• Willingness to work on-call or overtime as needed.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Good communication skills and a cooperative attitude.
• No prior experience required; training will be provided.
