Rowan Alert – Sign Up Today

Rowan County has officially transitioned from the Rave alert system to Everbridge, our new emergency notification platform.

This upgraded system, will provide important notifications such as:

• Tornado Warnings
• Severe Thunderstorm Warnings
• Flash Flood Warnings
• Snow and Ice Advisories
• Road Closures due to construction
• Other emergency notifications affecting your area

Important: Even if you were previously signed up for Rave/Reverse 911, you must register again in Everbridge to continue receiving alerts.

Rowan Alert is:
• Location-based
• Free to residents
• Customizable (text, call, and email options)
• Designed to avoid unnecessary notifications

We strongly encourage residents to create an account using the link below so alerts can be tailored as accurately as possible to your location and notification preferences.

Sign up here:
https://member.everbridge.net/index/76589467435147

If you do not have time to create a full account right now, you can still receive limited updates by texting:

• ROWANWEATHER to 888777 for weather alerts
• ROWANROADS to 888777 for road alerts

While texting these keywords will provide important updates, creating a full account provides more accurate, location-based notifications specific to your area.

We encourage all residents to take a few minutes to sign up and stay informed.

By working together and staying informed, we continue strengthening preparedness across Rowan County.

RED FLAG WARNING – WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16

Today is a Red Flag Warning Day, meaning conditions are extremely dangerous for fires. Warm temperatures, very low humidity, and strong winds are combining to create a high risk for rapid fire spread.

We are also still in the NO BURN SEASON.
All outdoor burning is prohibited at this time.
Please do your part to keep our community safe:
Do not burn trash, brush, or debris
Avoid activities that could spark a fire
Report any signs of fire immediately

Let’s work together to prevent wildfires and protect lives and property.

FYI

04/06/2026

Today, we remember the firefighters who tragically lost their lives at the Island Fork Fire, which occurred 27 years ago on this date in Rowan County. Kevin Rex Smith and Kenneth Allen Nickell, who were firefighters with the Route 377 Volunteer Fire Department, perished in the wildland fire due to the unforeseen interaction of strong winds and complex terrain. This rapidly spreading, high-intensity fire prevented them from using escape routes to reach a safety zone. We honor our fallen heroes here in Kentucky, who have bravely sacrificed their lives to keep us safe.
