📚🌱 June is almost here, and we have so many exciting things happening at the library!

We’re kicking off the month on Monday with a special visit from Garrett and his reptiles! 🐍🦎 He’s back and ready to introduce us to some of his cold-blooded friends beginning at 1:30 PM. This is always a crowd favorite, so be sure to join us!

Our Summer Reading Program begins this week and will take place every Wednesday from 1:00–3:00 PM throughout June and July. This year’s theme is “Plant a Seed, Read!” 🌱📖 Every time a child finishes a book, they’ll earn a leaf to help fill our library reading tree. We can’t wait to watch it grow all summer long!

Reading program tracking sheets are printed and ready to be picked up at the library. We have received so many generous donations this year, and we’ll be highlighting our amazing sponsors and supporters throughout the summer.

And while you’re visiting with your littles, don’t forget to check out our summer-themed coloring sheets! ☀️🎨 They’re available now and ready for some creative fun.

🌟 Fun Fact Friday 🌟

Did you know our community pantry is funded strictly through donations? ❤️

We’ve had amazing community members donate both pantry items and monetary donations to help keep the shelves stocked. We’ve also recently added a section with household items to better serve our community needs!

We are so thankful for the kindness and generosity that continues to make this possible. 💛

The pantry is located just inside the first set of library doors and is open during regular library hours:

📚 Monday & Thursday: 10 AM – 6 PM
📚 Wednesday: 9 AM – 4 PM
📚 Saturday: 9 AM – 1 PM

Today our library was surprised with such a heartfelt and touching book donation. The Appanoose County Clover Buddies donated a collection of books in memory of Mark “Marky” Mendick. ❤️

Marky was an Appanoose County resident who passed away on February 28, 2026, at the young age of 7. Each donated book contains a special memorial sticker inside, making this gift even more meaningful.

We are incredibly honored that Marky’s memory will live on through stories shared with children and families in our community for years to come. Thank you to the Clover Buddies for this thoughtful and generous donation. 📚

“Mom, read one more!” 📚💛

No matter how old they get, my kids still love our nightly reading time. Today they picked several books that have either never been checked out or have only been checked out once in the last few years, and honestly, some of the older hidden gems have been surprisingly good!

We currently have quite a few books displayed that need some love before they end up being weeded from the collection. Sometimes the books that get overlooked the most are the ones that end up becoming favorites.

Next time you visit the library, consider taking a chance on an older title or one you’ve never noticed before. You never know what story might become your next favorite read. 📖✨

We’re excited to officially introduce the library’s new Seed Library! Stop in and pick up seeds to help get your garden growing this season. Whether you’re planting vegetables, herbs, flowers, or just trying gardening for the first time, we hope this space inspires our community to grow something new. 🌼🥕🌿

We’ve also put together a gardening-themed book display filled with helpful resources and inspiration, including topics like:
📚 Vegetable gardening
📚 Herb gardens
📚 Seed saving
📚 Gardening in Iowa
📚 Small-space gardening
📚 Houseplants & fresh air plants
