Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

🇺🇸Ogilvie American Legion's Memorial Day Color Guard Services. It will start at St. Kathryn's Catholic Cemetery at 9:00 am, then Lewis Lake Covenant Church at 10:00 am, Graceland Cemetery at 11am, and end at Ogilvie Raceway around 11:15 am.

🇺🇸Post 201 will be hosting a Memorial Day service at 10:30 am at the Memorial Garden at Oakwood Cemetery, Mora. Sheriff Smith will be the guest speaker. The Veterans Memorial will open after the ceremony, with coffee and cookies available.

Sheriff Smith and Deputy Segelstrom supported the youth from Ogilvie Schools OWN It! group today at their annual 5K fun run.

Deputy Segelstrom dominated with a time of just over 21 minutes. Sheriff Smith was close behind, but we wont reveal his time 😉

Following observational trends across northcentral MN, we have issued a Red Flag Warning in effect until 9 PM this evening for Douglas, Todd, Morrison, Benton, Mille Lacs, & Kanabec counties. Outdoor burning is NOT recommended!

The Kanabec County Sheriff's Office is aware of concerns that have been brought to our attention regarding the welfare of several horses in Kanabec County. This is an active, open investigation that includes outside resources with equine expertise. A plan is in place to ensure the welfare of these animals. At the same time, we will be investigating any reports of stalking, harassment, trespassing, or the sharing of private personal information (doxxing) targeting this family. We ask for your cooperation and to allow the proper authorities to do their job.

May 14, 2026 - The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 37 counties in parts of northwest, west central, and southwest Minnesota that INCLUDES Kanabec County.

A Red Flag Warning means fires can spread quickly and grow out of control under the predicted weather conditions, including low relative humidity and high winds. Residents should not burn in counties where a Red Flag Warning is in effect and should also check any recent burning they did to ensure the fire is completely out.

Each May for , we celebrate and honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of law enforcement officers across the country. Originally established by presidential proclamation, President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week, which includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th, and a week of observances recognizing officers who have given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities with dedication and courage.

​National Police Week is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice, and family.

Red Flag warning that includes Kanabec County.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 26 counties in parts of central and northwest Minnesota, effective today, May 8, from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. due to low relative humidity and high winds.

Impacted counties include Becker, Benton, Big Stone, Cass, Chippewa, Clay, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Kanabec, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Mahnomen, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Norman, Otter Tail, Pope, Sherburne, Stearns, Stevens, Swift, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, and Wilkin.

When a Red Flag Warning is in effect:
🚫 Don't burn brush or yard waste.

⚠️ Be careful with any outdoor activity that can cause heat or sparks. Metal from yard equipment that hits a rock could create a spark. Park vehicles and ATVs on gravel or pavement to avoid the hot exhaust systems heating nearby tall grass.

❗️ Campfires are discouraged during a Red Flag warning. If you do have a campfire, follow proper campfire safety tips: clear any flammable items 5 feet around the campfire area, keep it contained in a fire ring, keep it small, always attend your fire, and put it out COLD. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.

We have been made aware of some residents of Kanabec County receiving these types of text messages. It is a scam. Do not click links; delete the message.

If you receive a text messages claiming you have an unpaid Minnesota traffic violation or parking ticket and demanding payment via a link or QR code are SCAMS. Neither the Minnesota Judicial Branch, DVS, nor law enforcement will ever text you to demand payment.
