It has been a privilege to be part of Clay County Treatment Courts in a variety of roles throughout my career. As a law clerk for Judge Lisa Borgen, I witnessed firsthand her dedication to Clay County’s first treatment court — Drug Court — and the impact it had on participants and our community.

Later, as defense counsel, I had the opportunity to attend trainings and serve on the Veterans Treatment Court team. Over the years, I’ve attended graduations and watched these programs continue to grow and evolve.

Treatment courts are incredibly valuable programs that offer people a real opportunity to change their lives. Hearing from alumni yesterday as they shared their gratitude for the support, accountability, and second chances these programs provided was truly inspiring.

Graduates of the Clay County Treatment Court are forming an alumni group to mentor current participants and expand recovery support.

📌 Wonderful to see the continued support for Clay County Treatment Courts by our Board of Commissioners, as they approved a proclamation to recognize the month of May as National Treatment Court Month this morning.

📌 Currently, Clay County prosecutors are no longer attending, participating in, or offering treatment courts as part of plea negotiations. Amber will reverse this policy on her first day, if elected.

📌 Treatment court programs are nationally recognized as effective in reducing rates of reoffending and are powerful options available to help individuals deal with addiction.

📌 If you support this change, please contribute to Amber's campaign fund and vote Amber Gustafson for Clay County Attorney in November.

📌 Watch the Board Meeting and hear the proclamation promoting changed lives and the unique approach to justice that Clay County treatment courts offer to participants.
