April is "Celebrate Diversity Month" and the Mayor's Diversity & Inclusion Taskforce is excited to launch the Diverse & United Pledge. TiEA is a supporter and advocate for diversity and inclusion.

Please join us in taking the D&U pledge.
This pledge is a way for us to have one voice and bring our community together by focusing on principles that show we are more similar than we believe. This pledge guides us to speak from a place of hope, courage, empathy, & truth. Please scan the QR code below or visit bit.ly/mdupledge to read and take the pledge today.
What does Diverse & United mean?
Diverse= Showing a great deal of variety, very different. Includes people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, religions, physical abilities, and economic backgrounds.

United= Join together for a common purpose. Relate to or form a joint action or a unified effort. Being harmonious and in agreement.

"We can learn to see each other and see ourselves in each other and recognize that human beings are more alike than we are unlike." ~Maya Angelou

Important Updates:
In an effort to remain unpartisan we will remove all posts endorsing candidate or campaigns. In the future we hope to hold another question and answer session as we did for MGSD school board elections in 2021.
We, as a group, embrace the inherent worth of the whole child in relation to the broader community. We advocate for programming that meets the unique socio-cultural needs of each individual student. We believe in teaching empathy, accurate history, critical thinking, and in striving for more inclusion and diversity are essetial.
As part of this group please remember that we will be kind to one another and work together to help students (as agreed to when joining the group). Bullying, screenshots take to be shared to other groups, and name calling will not be allowed.
Thank you for being part of our group!

Thoughtful Tuesday:
April is Celebrate Diversity Month!

Books are a great way to expose our kids to different cultures, diverse experiences, and various backgrounds. Helping our children realize that we have more in common with people that may be different is a important life lesson they need at an early age.

What is your favorite diverse book you have read or plan to read with your children or on your own?

The Conscious Kid is an education, research and policy organization that supports families and educators in taking action to disrupt racism, inequity and bias

Thoughtful Tuesday:
Let's learn more about a hot topic word this week, anti-racism.
* "Anti-racism is the process of unlearning racist ideas; co-learning new ways of seeing the world; engaging in challenging work required to make meaningful change; enacting policies that manifest the changes needed to make our communities equitable for all."
What can we do as community members to help make our communities equitable for all and stop racism? What can we do at home?

Thoughtful Tuesday:
Participating in our schools, our districts, or education at the state level can make a huge difference. How have you been actively involved this semester with schools?
If you see a need within local schools, school boards, or student groups how can you help?
Take action and make a positive difference.
